Hmmmm...honestly, I can only speak for my org (regarding honorary member privileges) because Alpha Kappa Alpha (and other orgs) may have different rules for honorary members than we do. But being an honorary member (read: being offered membership rather than coming through an application process) is quite an honor so it is common to make sure to emphasize that title. Also, in the article's photo, Brandy is throwing up the ivy leaf. Although a more popular AKA hand sign is holding the pinky up, I don't think either sign is "official."

She looks so young and beautiful in those pictures -- like a collegiate woman -- that I had to go look up her age. (It's 35 for those who were wondering. AMAZING.) Congratulations to Brandy and to AKA.

I can't decide if I like her dress.

Some shots I think it's adorable and then in a super close up shot it seems to be made of mesh, meh.

Definitely like the silhouette of it though.

I'll agree with StealthMode about speaking for our org (and the bolded). I am not sure about limitations, but Honorary members have been significant in our organization since the category was created. They even hold "Honorary Chair" National Committee positions. If I see Angela Bassett somewhere, I'm going to greet her and throw up our pyramid with her! (A girl can dream!)
As far as I know there are no "official" handsigns, although, one should not EVER throw one of them up unless they are a member. (Unwritten rule of course) Many of the NPHC groups have multiple signs/stances that are synonomous with their specific organization.

Congratulations to Brandy and AKA. How wonderful that she can share this with her mother. : )

For my org, they do not.
My personal opinion: get rid of honorary status. I think it's useless. Either be a member or not. That simple.
