Traveling to events/conventions

I see a lot of out-of-town events, conventions and other Greek meetings on these forums. Does anyone have any suggestions for cheap travel? I know there are places like cheaptickets.com but they're really not "cheap"!!!!

Sounds like a great excuse to round up a few of your sisters and have a nice road trip.

For convention two years ago, I got a red-eye ticket from Seattle to Washington DC for the low 200's. I just kept watching (checked every day) and then we jumped when it got low. We flew red-eye a day early so we could sightsee before convention started...........

Visit ME in cali

I recommend SOUTHWEST if you have it, or it would be NORTHWEST over there??? either way its the BEST and do it at least 2 weeks ahead of time for "fun fair" which makes it EXTRA cheaper!!!!

I'd think about driving or taking a train. I know it'll take a while but it is honestly the cheapest way. For convention we meet in S. Wisconsin and all drive to the event together. It not only saves money, but also forces those women to bond and that is always a good thing to do.

I assume you're talking about airfares? If so, join the Frequent Flyer Club (or whatever it's called) for every possible airline that you would take. Then, ask them to start sending you the weekly fare updates. You can do the same with Travelocity & other discount sites.

Sooner or later, you'll start to recognize the patterns. Once you have it figured out, and decide what you'd like to spend, jump on it!

The other way is if you know someone who flies a lot, but never uses their miles. See if they'll give you some miles for babysitting or something, until you can get a free seat.

Actuallly it's very difficult to give away miles; however, a person can designate anyone to use their freebie ticket or upgrade at the time of booking.

Most airlines require 25,000 frequent flier miles before you can get a freebie steerage class seat.

If you are a student, or have a .edu email address, try www.studentuniverse.com. GPhiBLtColonel told me about it last summer and I got some great rates compared to what the airlines were offering!

Lynn,

Travelocity is showing roundtrip from $227 into Midway or $229 into O'Hare. I prefer Midway, personally.. cuz it's smaller!

I'm taking the Amtrak to Chicago from Dearborn, MI.. hoping to get a big group of AGD's to do the same.. it's only $55 round trip!

Dee

Are you a member of AAA? Or your parents? You can get some really cheap flights there, and they seem to still be cheap if you're getting them last-minute.

But seriously, think about road-tripping. OK, maybe not GA to CA, since that takes days, right? But to a closer event, that would take you all day to drive, why not drive? I've had some of my best PSP experiences driving all over the place to visit other chapters. Check and see if there are other chapters along your route, where you could possibly stop for lunch with some sisters, or pick up other sisters who are also going to the event. Convoy! It's a GREAT time and a wonderful bonding experience.
