Hello,

I am currently pursuing a graduate chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha in my area. There are certain things I am worried about.

I was able to get introduced to one of the members and the president. Which is awesome because the first step is actually become acquainted with the women in the chapter.

But I am a little worried because of two things.....

***I heard they do a credit check. Although I am currently working on my credit, I am afraid that it will play a huge factor. I had a layoff in the past that messed me up. But now, I am back on track.
***Although I continue to do community service outside of the events they host, I do not know if it is enough or will meet the requirement. I have done community service both off and on the record. (Off--meaning I was in my early teens donating and doing clothing drives with my fellow co workers out of the kindness of our hearts----not to gain community service hours. Will letters from my past co workers confirming we have done this help?)

If anyone can give me guidance in regards to this, please let me know. I am just a little worried. I have been researching this sorority for many years and I am the type of person that will like to be prepared. But unfortunately there is but so much you can find out online.

Hello: my wife and daughters are members of Alpha Kappa Alpha; they do not do a credit check, but like all organizations, a background check is conducted in their process... Do not worry about the credit check, whoever told you that did not know what they were talking about

You will not find the answers you seek on line from strangers.

Control the things you can. If your credit is messed up get it straight. You need good credit for life not just a sorority.

Community Service - if you don't think you are doing enough do more. *hint if its from HS no one cares what have you done for your community lately

Members: You need to get to know real active members to give you correct information.

For now work on being the best candidate you can be and if the opportunity presents itself you won't have to worry.

Read the other NPHC threads on here - they may be years old but the information remains the same. There is nothing unique that you need to ask about online. If you've been researching for years you should know this already.
