"Lion" running loose in Virginia
f you've been watching TV today, you might have seen Charles the Monarch, an unofficial mascot for Old Dominion University (home of Zeta Tau Alpha Old Dominion) on all the talk and news shows! He's a labradoodle who gets mistaken for a real lion AND he's owned by a ZTA senior, Natalie Painter. Check out this fun clip from Good Morning America: http://abcnews.go.com/GMA/video/dog-...-lion-18173321

I was walking by the family room this morning and saw the "lion" on tv. I asked my husband, "WTH is that?" That dog is way too cool. I wonder if it would work on my mini-schnauzer? Probably not.

I guess none of the sillypantses that called 911 have ever watched a nature show and realized that a lion that small doesn't have a mane yet. Duh!!

I had this very early memory of going to a neighbor's house to feed a lion. When I was a young adult, I asked my mom about this, because it didn't make sense to me. I very clearly remembered walking to the neighbor's house and feeding a lion that was in a cage. She laughed and said I used to feed a COLLIE in a kennel at that house. At age 3 or 4, apparently the mane on a collie was enough to fool me...lol.

My first thought when I saw the title of this thread?
Wow, cool, the correct use of the word, "loose!" LOL

I've met Charles! He is the SWEETEST dog, and loves being the unofficial face of ODU. He was dyed pink for ZTA's philanthropy event when I met him.

This is one of those "small world" things. We live on the VA/NC border, less than 45 minutes from ODU, so this has been all over the news down here. When I started reading this thread, my daughter, an AOPi from Ole Miss was sitting next to me. As soon as I read the name of the dog's owner, she started laughing. She knows Natalie, but until we found this thread, we had no idea that she was the owner.
The moral of this story...sometimes I learn more on GreekChat than from our local news.
