Hello All! I'm a senior in high school and I'm in my college search process and I will hopefully be joining a sorority next year! I've started looking through information about preparing for rush and finding woman to wirte rec's for me. I've applied early action to Alabama, Auburn, Michigan State, UMass Amherst, and Vermont. I know it's diverse. I'm open to all advice and comments on the greek life at these schools and the school in general. I plan on double majoring in elementary education and special education. What information were you looking for? But here's one piece of advice I'd offer - make sure you spend as much time as you can with kids in regular schools and in special needs environments. I have known so many girls who were elementary ed majors, only to find out they HATE little kids. This seems amazing to me, but it happens all the time. I can't help but think if they'd have been camp counselors, volunteered with special needs programs, something, they would have decided to change majors before they wasted so much time. And if you haven't done any of that yet, I'd get on it this year. Along with giving you a perspective on the job, it will also help your resume.

I attended UMass-Amherst for my masters. It's a nice campus and a fun community...at least it was 8 years ago! Great bookstores and restaurants in town, but don't base your decision on that.

I don't have specific information in mind just general tips. But I have spent some time working with kids. I was a camp counselor during the past few summers, I also teach Sunday School at my church, and I have volunteered at a children's Musuem for a couple years. My work with speecial needs programs does need more work. My younger brother is special needs so I've spent time around him but I know that it's not the same as a classroom. I'm hoping to volunteer at a local school for the blind this year.
With UMass that's good to hear. I havn't had the chance to visit the campus yet. They are having an open house next week so I'm going to visit then. I've heard the campus is huge and almost feels like a town. I'm excited to visit, I'll check out the bookstore and some of the restaurants.
