Freshmen TV Shows....
I've been noticing that very few TV channels are giving their "freshmen" shows much of a chance. If the show doesn't make "hit" ratings right away they pull it and then cancel it. Plus, I'm noticing that the shows get canceled and replaced with reality TV. I am so sick of reality TV shows.
What freshmen shows do you wish channels had given a chance?
1. My So Called Life- I truly believe that this show would be extremely successful if it aired now.
2. Models Inc.- I seriously want to know who got shot at the wedding.
3. Flashforward- love how ABC waited until after the show had filmed a season finale before canceling. Hated the cliffhanger of the show.
4. The Chase- stupid NBC should just give the show a chance.
While it wasn't a freshmen show, I wish Fox had give Sarah Connor Chronicles more of a chance to take off.

Firefly, obviously. It was an amazing show, and I'm really sad that it was cancelled. I know it'll probably never get brought back because Fox holds the rights and isn't letting them go and because the actors and producers have stuff going on. It just makes me sad.

Totally agree.
What I hate is that Nathan (Fillion) has spoken about his love for the role of Mal. I have a feeling he would totally do the show again (if he wasn't doing Castle). Fox just sucks (for cancelling Firefly)

I've never seen Firefly but if Fox would cancel Arrested Development (best show ever IMO) they'll cancel other great shows.
And the reason we see reality TV everywhere now is because they are CHEAP and people watch them. They limit the financial risk that networks take when starting a new series.

Thankfully the only show I watch on Fox right now is Glee and it is renewed through like season 4 or something. And Fox won't cancel Glee anytime too soon as it is their cash cow (the songs, CD's, memorabilia, tour) plus the show is ranking in the top 20 and has won them 2 Golden Globes, hence they won't be cancelling it anytime soon.
Truly I think that is what it takes for shows to actually succeed (winning awards).

I think it's all about ratings. Arrested Development won a boatload of Emmy nods but was still cancelled.
ETA: I've never seen Glee but from what I read on my FB feed that show seems to be pretty well watched.

I'm not much of a network TV watcher at ALL, but every now and then I get into a show or 2.
It seems like without fail, the show I get into gets cancelled.
Example: I really liked Popular (was on WB/now CW when I was in HS) and it got cancelled after like 2 seasons.
I also (guilty pleasure) like Hellcats (also CW) and they haven't decided whether they're bringing it back or not.

We pretty much stopped watching current TV. Cable and satellite options are all overpriced and most of what's on sucks. We get network channels free (yes, we have an antenna), but pretty much all we use our TV for is Netflix. When the Nielsen ratings people get our survey diary thing back, I guess we'll just be some kind of weird outlier - there's no way to even record how we watch TV with the thing.

I remember that show! I loved it!
Does anyone remember Ned & Stacy? I liked that show.

I've never understood the point to the Nielsen ratings, only because not everyone has a box and to be truly accurate that would need to happen. You would think that with today's technology there would be a way for them to actually get the ratings without the boxes.
But this is also coming from a person whose favorite TV shows tend to get cancelled because of lackluster ratings and it's not like I'm truly being counted as I don't have a Nielsen box.

Women's Murder Club.. loved it. Also loved Men in Trees. ABC killed them both. With Women's Murder Club, it was around the time of the writer's strike and it just ended abruptly. Men in Trees ended abruptly too after they kept putting it on long hiatuses. They'd show 3 episodes then nothing for a couple months. A show can't succeed if you can't get hooked.

I want to strangle every network executive for this bull. KEEP YOUR SHOWS ON IN THEIR TIMESLOT. People won't watch what they can't find because it hops all over hell's half acre.

This is what went wrong with some shows for me, like Firefly, and more recently V.

NBC did this with The Chase. The only reason I knew the show had moved to Saturday night, after like a 2 month hiatus, was because my DVR recorded it.
The stupid execs think that by moving the shows to a better time slot the ratings will improve, but hello no one can watch if you don't know when its on.

Well, they weren't freshman shows when they got cancelled, but I loved The OC and Heroes. Both only lasted a few seasons. I remember Ned and Stacy, I liked it (Debra MEssing pre- Will and Grace, and Thomas Hayden Church, post Wings).
There was an NBC show, maybe back in 02 or thereabouts with Benjamin Bratt (YUM), abotu a drug cartel, I cant remember the name, but wereally liked it and it go the ax. I liked V at first, but it was due to be cancelled.
