Fight Song

This weekend is the MTSU Homecoming "Cheers to the Last 90 Years". YAY! Last night was our dessert cook-off (we Zetas served Peanut Butter Parfait-yum!), followed by a pep rally and then Fight Song. Has anyone else ever done something called "Fight Song" for their school? What we do is take words from our school's fight song and put it into other songs (ex: we sang the old "Walk like an Egyptian" except it was "Walk like a Blue Raider", and "I'm Proud to Be an American" became "M-T-S-U Riding Onward, Never failing in the fight...", etc. LOL!) It is a big competition between all the Greek organizations (even the honors fraternities and locals participate).

I thought ours was pretty good, but clearly there were a couple others that were just awesome! One thing that bothers me, however, is that this morning I heard a rumor from SEVERAL sources that XYZ sorority that won 1st place had hired a PROFESSIONAL choreographer for theirs! I seriously think that should be grounds for disqualification, because that's just letting their money win!!! They also apparantly one LAST year, and that makes me wonder if they always hire someone. It's not as though this is a professional competition, anyhow. It's all about school spirit and working together and using your OWN creativity. I mean, their performance was DEFINITELY awesome, but it's just not right! What is everyone else's opinion on this???

I feel you on this Zetaluvbunny . . ..and just have to say: I am all about winning.

So I can see why they might have hired a proffessional OR just a got a friend (or friend of a friend of a friend) that is experienced or a professional to help them out. I believe that shows ingenuity, creativity, and good thinking on their part. The kind of thinking that is actually healthier than the "wing it even if we suck" attitude that is so prevalent today. Sorry but this is a pet peeve because I see so many Fraternities bring ,what I consider dishonor to themselves and disrespect to their hosts during sorority philanthropy events by putting on acts that are less than adequate. If I were the hosting sorority I would be less than amused after putting out all kinds of effort, but lucky for the survival of the human race, you ladies aren't too picky when it comes to the ways that men behave.

Also, don't foget that the winners ARE always criticised and we hear these types of rumours all the time regardles of the event. The healthier response would be to get someone with a good deal of real world experience to help you next year.

Well the thing is...the same sorority has won that competition for the past THREE years---and they did that exact same "Thriller" dance for All-Sing a couple years ago from what I've heard. Besides, many other sororities had an unfair advantage in that they were placed for homecoming with one or even two large fraternities, and we for example were placed with ONE fraternity that happened to be the SMALLEST one. Seeing how we are the 2nd smallest sorority on campus---that's extremely unfair as far as numbers go. You know, like one of the groups of one sorority & two fraternities totaled out at over 250 people. Our total was 70 of us Zetas and the 15 guys from the fraternity we did homecoming with. That's REALLY unfair.

No, the groups were not chosen at random. Several of the groups were able to chose one another, but we got STUCK with the smallest (although they are very nice guys) fraternity. It's not fair to the fraternity we were with, either, because our group as a whole was tiny. The should have been put with a bigger sorority, and we should have been put with a bigger fraternity. It's not a question of us not doing well----our fight song was performed the the best of our abilities. It was really good, but that doesn't mean that others weren't better (and they were) simply because they had more people involved. More people involved not only means a better looking show, but more ideas and more time to get things done. It's just not fair.
