What does Incubus' "Drive" mean?
It's driving me crazy.

Drive is about taking charge of your life, utilizing the central metaphor of driving for control, control of the car=control over your life. My line by line interp:

Sometimes I feel the fear of uncertainty stinging clear
There are bad things in life, dout, hurt, pain.
And I cant help but ask myself how much I'll let the fear take the wheel and steer
There are bad things in life, and sometimes, they seem so bad, that they take on a life of their own and take over your life.
It's driven me before, it seems to have a vague
There have been moments in my life where this has happened
Haunting mass appeal
And part of me rather enjoyed not being in control, no responsibilties, no effort, no strain.
Lately I'm beginning to find that I should be the one behind the wheel
But I need to take control of my life, to take charge of my own path.
Whatever tomorrow brings, I'll be there
I am prepared to see and to deal with what happens in the future
With open arms and open eyes yeah
Open arms=love, arms to embrace, open eyes=caution, looking out for being hurt by whatever comes along.
Whatever tomorrow brings, I'll be there, I'll be there
I am prepared for the future
So if I decide to waiver my chance to be one of the hive
Hive=Insects=Lack of orginality, he's choosing to be different and set his own way, rather than do what everyone else does.
Will I choose water over wine and hold my own and drive, oh oh
Reference to Jesus with the water and wine, a man who took the ultimate control over his life...and decided to end it. Also a reference to picking something simple and regarded as free over something ornate, complex and expensive. He's chosing again to drive, to do what he wants to do.
It's driven me before, it seems to be the way
I've tried being unorginal, following the crowd, letting society dictate what they want me to do.
That everyone else get around
Everyone lets others drive for them, why shouldnt I?
Lately, I'm beginning to find that when I drive myself, my light is found
Light=Englightenment, When you take control of your own life, you become more enlightened, either intellectually, emotionally, or spiritually. This can only happen when you yourself are in control or the drivers seat.
Chorus
Would you choose water over wine
Hold the wheel and drive

The song's instruction to the listener, take control of your actions, be an individual and life your life to the fullest.
Chorus again.

So that's my interp of the song. Deep stuff. Anyone else have a take one it?
