Newmom. no one will tell you about reputations of the soroities. They dont do that on here. I don't know anything about Ole Miss but I will answer based on what i know about my daughters SEC school. I think the atmosphere is probably similar. Most of the gilrs who go through recruitment are first rate girls. They can not all get into the sororities that are considered tops. A lot of times it just comes down to who you know. Since most girls going through are great students and were very involved in high school it stands to reason that most girls in all the sororites are really good. It is very unfortunate that some groups suffer because of the talk of a bunch of teenagers. I don't know which sorority you are talking about but I can almost promise that they are a great bunch of girls. It has been said on here before that even the groups that struggle at schools like Ole Miss would be tops at other places. I really wouldn't worry about it. Tell your daughter to have an open mind and really get to know all the sororites. Try very hard not to listen to the gossip. It is hard but she and you will be much happier.
My daughter is finding out that some of those top groups aren't really that great once you get to know them.

I'm not an Ole Miss expert, but in general, it would behoove your daughter to focus on finishing high school with the strongest GPA possible, getting recs etc. in order when the time is right, and keeping an open mind during recruitment, rather than worrying about what's "wrong" with a sorority. We don't really discuss chapter reputations on this site, but it has been said time and time again that every chapter at Ole Miss really is a great chapter.

I work on campus and I'm an alumna of my sorority and Ole Miss, I can tell you that all 9 sororities are wonderful. Each sorority has wonderful members. There is no perfect sorority at Ole Miss. I can tell you if your daughter goes into recruitment with such negative preconceptions it will not help her experience. If I was going through recruitment at Ole Miss in 2010, I would be honored to be a new member of any of the 9 sororities. They all participate in many philanthropies, have plenty of socials, have beautiful houses, and they all receive honors by their National Organizations. They all also receive honors on campus by our local Panhellenic. I can tell you that all 9 sororities are forces to be reckoned with and coming on here to talk about one particular group because of what you have “heard” is not necessary. I am friends with advisors from all 9 sororities and I can assure you they all have their problems along with lots of sisterhood, fun, and a wonderful lifetime experience.

Thank you for the information. No one has ever been greek in our family so my daughter has no preconcieved thoughts on any sorority. I only asked because I thought it was sad that this sorority was treated differently and I didnt understand. Sorry if I crossed into territory that is not allowed.

I am so sorry if I upset anyone, that was not my intent. I didnt say anything negative about any sorority, and my daughter may some day be a member of that sorority. I was just shocked that with the greek system so strong, and talks of cuts that such a good sorority doesnt make quota.
Again I am sorry, I thought this forum was to ask questions.

Pretty amazing that with no Greeks in your family, you know of national sorority reputations.

33girl-STOP IT!!!! Because of you posting a picture of the wish troll (which took me a second to realize what you were posting it for), I actually, AGAIN, laughed out loud in the library-when I should be studying....
That was pretty damn funny....You just see this stupid/ ugly looking toy smiling back at you. Thank you for that!

Oh, you didn't upset me. I just feel that Ole Miss Panhellenic really has 9 wonderful groups. And what's that old saying "your only as strong as your weakest link?!?!" I do wish your daughter good luck and just let her know that "recruitment is not a guaranteed process."

didn't all the sororities make quota? irregardless, your daughter will have a wonderful experience if she is lucky enough to become a member of any of the chapters at ole miss. she will need good grades and gpa, good recommendations to each chapter on campus and good activities on her resume. she should watch how she conducts herself when out and about in oxford and on campus, as ole miss has a delayed recruitment. best not to attend any fraternity parties and watch what she posts on facebook/myspace/livejournal. good luck to her.

If your daughter is offered membership to any of these groups on campus, she needs to feel very honored.
Yes, I went there. yes, I rushed there. Listen to Ole Miss Glitter. She knows that campus and its groups better than anyone else on here.
Y'all need to stop listening to people talk. Seriously.
Ole Miss is either the second or third hardest rush in the country. The sororities there are of the FINEST caliber. Top notch. Anyone would be lucky to accept a bid from ANY of the groups there.
Girls/women always just need someone to shit on so they can feel better about themselves. It's just an insecurity issue with people who spread that kind of talk.

Behind who?
Alabama?
I would say:
1. Ole Miss
2. Alabama
3. Texas
4. Arkansas
5. LSU
But I could be biased.

I'm so sorry I didn't consult with you first. You are, as always, the know-it-all of the SEC. And, so knowledgeable in NPC rush matters. Silly of me, really.

Oh wow, I wasn't being rude at all.
I was just wondering. That's where my line up would be, I was just saying. Good grief. Someone's got themselves a tude.

I was just messing with you, b/c I thought you were giving me hell about Bama being the hardest. Thought that came across as sarcasm... Sorry if it came across as bitchy. Guess I chose my words wrong?
In my mind:
Bama
Ole Miss
Texas
Indiana
Arkansas
