office supplies

Ok, so after investigating the secret vices thread, and seeing that a lot of people share my affinity for office supplies, I thought we could share our love of such organizational tools.

What are your faves? what products don't you like?

also, what organizational systems work best for you?

expand and retract this thead topic as necessary

as for my faves: I LOVE pilot's easy touch pens... they don't make them without the retractable anymore but they are still great.

I enjoy hanging folders, sheet protectors, loose leaf and binders. No folders in said binder though... dividers are also great.

p.s. i love planners. I can never find a good one though.
i need month view AND weekly view! I need the dates already put in (a lot of franklin covey don't do that... plus you can get the planners at walmart or target... but the refills are outrageously expensive!! ) and I need monthly dividers. It can't be too small or too big.

I can't live without my Pilot G-2 0.7. I go through a pack of 10 in about a month.

Post-Its. I have a PDA that organizes my schedule and life very well, but I still find that Post-Its are more effective. My desk and office are covered in them, and once a task is completed, the Post-It comes off and goes into the trash.

The paper shredder. Sometimes I shred paper so that I don't have to throw it in the trash. I empty my own trash, but someone else empties the shred bag.

Jumbo paper clips. I hate the regular sized ones.

Paper cutter. I still can't cut straight with scissors.

I love the post it flags. I'm totally addicted to them.

Also, they have really good mechanical pencils at work. SO nice you'd think they were pens. I love em.

I LOVEEEE planners.. my favorite one right now is At a glance's planner with the 2 page monthly view and the daily planner in one.

I love Foray gel in pens (5mm); and desk organizer systems.

I cant cut straight either, never could.

I have the sortkwick finger moistener, my glue sticks, my stick pens and my paper trays.

I'm an admitted pen snob. I love Sensa pens, especially the Stylist Gels (seen here http://www.sensaonline.com/page/stylist.htm). These aren't for people who don't like heavy pens. For those of you who do, you should definitely give them a try.

I love Franklin-Covey. My hubby thinks I'm crazy (says F-C is nothing more than a successful brainwashing experiment), but I'm addicted to their planners. (The planners have those handy pen-holders, and even if a pen falls out, the zipper will keep it all safe.)

I am one too. My non-profit works closely with a bunch of pharmaceutical companies, and it's like Christmas morning when we get goodies from them: pens with ends that can also serve as a stylus for my PDA, retractable highlighters, and big Post-It message pads.

My office used to order them and then they switched to another kind - I found them at Staples so now I just buy my own! Love them!

I too love Post-It flags - how did I live without them? Also love my pen/highlighters that I ordered for our alumnae panhellenic.

One of my first jobs in college was a Student Assistant position at the Hawaii Department of Education. My best friend worked in the Assistant Supt.'s office so she had access to the gigantic supply closet.

For some reason, the secretary liked to take her vacations right before the semester started. We'd load up on necessities for school -- folder paper, notepads, pens, line-out, binders, sheet protectors, computer paper, and reinforcements.

Her first day back from vacation was always a hoot. We'd all wait for the "WE'VE BEEN ROBBED!" scream and then we'd have a laugh.

Thank you, DOE, for providing my school supplies.

Am I the only one who goes ballistic if someone "borrows" my scissors? We also need a three-month at a glance calendar, or people get cranky.

I got a chance to do some office supply shopping, so each desk has color coordinated mouse pads, staplers, scissors, post-its, staple remover, etc, etc. Thank heavens we have a small office!

I also keep a specific type of pen for applicants, in a specific container. If someone comes to apply and doesn't even think to bring a pen, I automatically deduct mental points off of the applicant. And if he/she takes the pen? They'll steal anything - don't bother.

I love my Classic Disneyland desk accessories: Mad Hatter's teacup ride paper clip holder, Monorail stapler, and the Jungle Riverboat tape dispenser (special signifigance on that one, my grand-dad helped build that ride!) When it gets to crazy here, we close up shop, take a mental health day and go to the Happiest Place on Earth.
