Question Programming question

Does your organization, either your chapter or the whole national, use any kind of motivational programming, along the lines of a Dale Carnegie course?

If so, do you find it beneficial? If it's written by non-Greeks, does it relate enough to your situation?

Dale Carnegie (I just realized I'm showing my age assuming everyone knows what that is)is kind of a course to build your self-esteem and self-confidence. A lot of comapnies have their salesmen go through those or something similar.

Motivation for all of those, mostly recruitment and retention, but also chapter dynamics as a whole.

My National doesn't do anything in an organized fashion along those lines.

I believe Pi Kappa Phi has a program developed or similar to the one made by Stephen Covey, Seven Habits of highly Successful People. Maybe a Pi Kap can go into it.

As a chapter president for a couple years as well as student government and officer on Greek Council I have been to a myriad of leadership programs. No doubt most of you have also.

The vast majority were not very useful when it comes to actually getting things done . . . although many were entertaining.

The best ones I have seen were the ones that were originally geared towards business practices and modified for Greeks.

As far as applicability, greek organizations are not the truly different organizations that people seem to mystify them into being.

We have the same organizational dilemnas and structures that other groups have.

What makes us unique is we have almost complete turn over every 3-5 years, and rarely have officers that last longer than a year.

So just about any business/leadership application is relevant to what we are doing.

I find that some of the workshops given by college proffessionals or people that work in the Greek System to be overly infected with PC type stuff.

A little too much emphasis on workshops on diversity training and feel good stuff rather than "roll your sleeves up and get the job done" type of program.
