Thumbs down Greek Gifts, Etc.

Hey, just want to warn everyone NOT to place any online orders from Greek Gifts, Etc. The owner is Katherine Williams in Cary, NC. I placed an order in June, never got it, had to pay for it on my credit card. They will not respond to my numerous e-mails and calls. We contacted the BBB and even THEY have had no luck!!

You should be able to challenge the charge with your credit card company. Contact them. They'll do some more of the hunting down for you.

I used to order from her all of the time, and I think she used to post on GC years ago. I always had a great experience with her and I haven't really heard anything negative

Wonder if there was some sort of emergency or something... you never know. Particularly if she won't respond to anything.

But as Drolefille suggested, contact your credit card company to dispute the charges.

Credit card companies generally only give you 60 days from the date of purchase to dispute things.

Good point, I didn't pay attention to the time frame. It was the OP's mistake in not going through her credit card company to begin with. That's part of the reason to use a credit card- for the protection it can offer you.

I do have to admit to being wary of someone who joins GC and makes a single post badmouthing a greek online company. May be legit, but may also be a competitor looking to stir up trouble.

I'm wary, too -- but I did a quick BBB search and found this report, showing that they have an "unsatisfactory" BBB record. Interesting -- I wonder what's up with them.

GreekGifts,Etc.

I'm legit, guys. I was buying sorority stuff for my daughter. The protection covered by my credit card is only if I purchased it within my state or within 100 miles of home. We had to pay the bill even without getting the merchandise. As of right now, we're out of luck. Thanks for your thoughts!!

I also ordered from Greek Gifts, Etc. last month and still have not received my items. I also have sent several emails wondering will I will receive them and from reading these other posts I now realized I prob wont receive my items. Does anyone know if I can get the money back from using my debit card??

You should be able to. Debit cards a little bit more difficult to file a dispute with but your debit card provider will suspend the charge until they figure out the problem. They may even be able to get Greek Gifts to send you the items. Call the number on the back of your card and explain what happened. Make sure you have the amount that was charged and any other reference/confirmation numbers you may have received.

In the future, don't use a debit card to make an online purchase. The money leaves your bank account right away and you might not ever see it again. Use a credit card instead since you don't have to make a payment on that charge until after the dispute is resolved. Just from my own personal experiences and experiences I've heard about with friends and family, the best credit card to use to make an online purchase with is American Express. They almost always favor their customers during a charge dispute. Visa and Mastercard are about 50/50 in favoring the merchant over the customer.

Just confirming that the 60 day limit on some credit cards - I got taken for $200 from a non-greek company about 2 years ago. I still email & fax them, just for kicks at this point.

I have ordered a lot of things from this website and have never had any problems. I hope the disputes are solved quickly.

Just fyi--

I once was supposed to be refunded $69.10 for shotty work done on my brakes (which is a whole nother story).

I assumed that the guy was honest and would refund my money. Well, I get my bank statement at the end of the month and found that he had actually recredited my account. So, I was then out almost $140. I went to my bank the next morning and was told that if the owner refused to refund me, I could file a dispute with the bank and they would try to get my money back.

--you might could do that.

Another way to protect yourself is to order only from Greek Licensed vendors (they should have a seal on their webpages, here is a link to the GL site: http://www.greeklicensing.com/).

While it sucks for her family that she's passed away, I don't think that discussing one's experience with her company is being disrespectful.
