Angry Excuse me???

Has anyone else been a victim of a moderator? I believe that some moderators are abusing their powers. No offense to ALL mods, but I am very upset and just wondering if anyone else has experienced this. Is it so wrong to be curious about a BGLO and go into their forum? I saw some incorrect information so I corrected it. Well, my post was deleted, along with a very nasty thread that was directed towards me. So am I wrong or what?

PM_Mama,

I haven't seen the thread or post in question, but I can tell you this. Mods are not here to censor you but they are responsible for maintaining their posts in their forums. They've been given the job because they are knowledgeable of the things pertaining to their forum, and in this case, their organization. Just as no organization is the same...not all forums are the same.

It is not wrong to be curious and read the posts in the BGLO forums. I read them every day and since my first day on GreekChat I've enjoyed reading their topics because they have a lot of good ones going on in there.

The moderators do not delete posts for their own enjoyment. Nor do they do so "because they can." They take into consideration their fellow members' interests and have guidelines on what is acceptable and what is not. Perhaps your reply was unacceptable?

Offensive posts will be deleted right away because they tend to be rude or disrespectful to the GC community. Just like that. No questions asked. No explanation given. But--if there's a post that a user feels is justified, a moderator will usually give his/her reason for that deletion.

If this is the case then I'd suggest emailing the moderator privately instead of posting publicly on this message board. This would probably be a better way to handle this situation, because, to be honest...after initially reading this post I felt as if a lynch mob was being organized against the mod in question. Please don't be offended, but that was my initial reaction.

Finally, your status simply changed after GC was transferred to the new system. It's not a demotion--that's what it came to be. Maybe the administrator can talk to the software people about getting it fixed to the old way?

It looks as if senior member is 100 posts, member is 25 and junior member is less than 25.

Moderators . . .

PM_Mamma00,

I have a moderators job in a couple forums. I have not received any specific tasks or charges to go with the job, so I kind of make it up as I go along. I'm willing to step out on a limb and say that this is probably true of most other moderators (see even on a limb I hedge my bett).

I interpret my job as to facilititate and spark a free flow of ideas of varying complexity and sophistication from variously complex and sophisticated people. I sometimes try coaxing discourse from people on the more serious topics, I may even be reduced to begging in the future as I try to get chapter operations discussions as many views from people as topics about barbie dolls and curly hair problems.

The criteria that is in my mind when I look through posts is simple:

1. I don't view the forums I moderate as owned by me, so dissenting opinion or various forms of expression are fine.

2. I am not overly concerned if a topic becomes passionate or controversial (which so far hasn't happened in topcis such as: Meeting times).

3. I do want everyone to feel comfortable to post and that their thoughts are appreciated.

So in order for me to censor a post:

It would have to be inflammatory in such a way that others were afraid or intimidated to post in the thread. Or it not only would have to be off topic, but also be interfering with a threads normal progress.

Just a glimpse inside the mind of one of the moderators.

Oh, and feel free to challenge in public, sometimes public scrutiny is the best reality check any of us can have.

as a result of the hardware crash, my response to this was lost & since PM_Mama00 was referring to a post of hers I deleted from the Delta board, I'm obligated to restate my position.

YES, I deleted her reply. NOT because she, or anyone else is not welcome on the Delta board and NOT because I have something against her. It was deleted because, as far as I could tell she does not belong to the group of people the person who started the thread requested an answer from. Part of my job as moderator is to make sure that the conversation flows nicely, to make sure that board rules are followed, and to make sure that any special requests (Sorors only/Sisterfirends only) are respected.
