Yes.
In any large group of women (and well, people in general) there will be cliques. People will tend to group themselves together. It's normal.

Sure. There are the people in a sorority you more naturally hang with. They may be ladies from your pledge class, the women you knew before, girls you had class with. But you still are all sisters, so you're still family and you still get that strong sense of sisterhood in most groups.
Just like everyone else said, it happens in any large group.

Never.

It's like a civil war in Africa; you know, it doesn't really concern you too much. - P.J. O'Rourke

Yes. It's similar to having sisters in real life, you may have your issues and times when you get annoyed, but the end of the day, you still care about them and you get over it and move on.
Note: You might want to lurk around here a little bit and do some searches for the stuff you want to know. Alot of your questions have been answered before.

It's an organization of young women who have a lot of power but differing opinions. There are obviously going to be cliques. That being said, because you are all in the same sorority for the most part people are respectful of the sisters they don't get along with.

Have you ever been part of a large group where there were no cliques?

Are there groups of sisters who are closer than others? Yes, always.
Are there mean nasty cliques like the Plastics? Sometimes, but not often.
The definition of clique is a group of people. It's just gotten a nasty connotation over the years. You are not going to be best friends with everyone in your chapter unless it has under 10 members (and that's probably even pushing it).
