Who Takes over if the Panehellnic Pres Steps down? Green Book Question
Hi All,
I am at work and am a campus advisor. I just got an email the Panhellenic President is stepping down at our campus. According to the Green Book is there someone listed who should take over, or is that campus to campus? Who is taking over seems strange to me and being at work I can't check.
My Green Book Pro's please let me know
Lisa

Oh, and if it is listed in the Green Book, where is it listed. Or could you quote it?
Thanks again for any help!

I would think that your panhellenic bylaws would spell out who assumes the presidency if the president resigns.

They are elected. To me it just seems strange they are putting in the VP of Recruitment and formal recruitment is starting on September 17. There for the VP of Recruitment's assisant is taking over Recruitment less then a week prior. The assistant is not elected she is placed in through volunteer.
Being at work I have nothing to look at.

If it's set up that she is second in command...then yes, she is who would step up. Hopefully she will also be able to assist the new VPR. Most everything should be done as far as setting up rush at this point...the only thing left is matching.

That is what I thought, it just seems strange to me because the second in command from what I can remember is not the VP of Recruitment I believe it is acctually the VP of Standards. The email said in accordance with the President's Manual, which I am not sure if that is a campus manual.
I really wanted to know what was said if anything in the Green Book, not having one at work with me I figured I would ask.
We have a large greek campus and currently no greek advisor. I know there are people on here far more knowledgeable then I so I wanted to ask.

Green Book is not the correct source. As previously stated, your Panhellenic Constitution and Bylaws should have policies on this matter. If they do not, I would recommend the Greek Advisor to accept emergency applications and have the Panhellenic review them as a whole, place someone in the position, and then immediately write new bylaws, etc. to remedy that if it occurs again in the future.

there is no way of telling without a copy of panhel bi-laws which should be available to you through panhel, if campus life doesn't already have a copy

Lion, no we have a full E-Board 6 members total with the President, it might just be our Pahellenic Bylaws that instate the VPR as the new Pres.

That is intersesting, I am not sure if our campus ever followed that, but it would be helpful to do.

Well, for various reasons, I have encountered this as both a collegiate and a Panhellenic Advisor.
The Collegiate Panhellenic Association By-Laws should have a section outlining what should occur in this situation. For example, at one school I know, the VP-Recruitment was the next line. At a different institution, it is the VP-Judicial Affairs.
While the Manual of Information ("Green Book") recommends that the President and VP-Recruitment have previous service on the Council, I do not believe it is it is an Unanimous Agreement (i.e. not required.) (If this changed in the 14th edition January 2008 updated or I have forgotten, let me know!)
It is great in theory, but not always in practice depending on the Panhellenic culture on campus. What do you do if there is only one women with previous Council experience, but the chapters do not want to elect her to the Presidency based on her past work? Or, what if there are no candidates that meet this. Some CPH Area Advisors do not necessarily recommend placing this in the by-laws unless there is a position for Assistant Recruitment that shadows/assists one year, then assumes the Vice Presidency the next (just another example).
Depending on how many officers on the collegiate council, you may want to talk about placing a different office next in the line of succession to avoid have the VP-Recruitment needing to be replaced.

I suggest you contact your NPC Area Advisor for clarification and approval.

According to their 2006 bylaws, they are following the proper protocol. Since they should be revised every four years, I would imagine they are still current.
The bylaws also state that only the President must have previous Panhellenic council experience or have served as President or VP in her chapter.
