The University of Akron
How does this fall look at Akron? What fraternities and sororities will be successful?
And also, does any one know anything about Theta Chi, their letters are no longer on the house.

Many if not most of the fraternities and sororities at Akron are very strong chapters.
Are you currently part of the Greek system at Akron?

Everything's fine with Theta Chi, they are just doing some redecorating.

We have a few Zip girls on the board. My youngest niece is a senior in high school this fall and Akron is one of her top three choices. I think she was more interested in the dorms that are part of Quaker Square than the school itself.

I may be wrong, but I don't believe many if any freshmen live in Quaker. The university is only housing students on select floors of Quaker right now, and a housing revamp this past Spring allocated a lot of the rooms to an overflow from the Honors Complex.
That being said, I loved Akron and would recommend it to anyone.

Freshmen get put in Quaker if there aren't enough spots left in the other dorms. Same with Exchange. As of one of the Januarys (either this one or the next one) we will have all of Quaker Square as a dorm. We are also building a new dorm right next to the stadium. Both the dorm and the stadium look awesome
As far as other new buildings go, the College of Ed will be getting a new building in the future. Phi Delta Theta also just built a really nice new house

I am going to be a freshman, I will be looking to rush in the fall. Any suggestions? I have talked to a few chapters and I really like Kappa Sigma and FIJI.

I know nothing about Greek Life at Akron, but one of my friends down here in Charlotte is a Kappa Sigma from there and he's the nicest, most down to Earth guy.

The vast majority of fraternities at Akron are very well respected. My personal opinion is that all the groups are quite different from each other; you should be able to find a good fit somewhere.
Keep your eyes open this weekend during the Welcome Weekend events. The Greek community helps with freshman move-in on Friday and hosts a Go Greek ice cream social on Saturday. Both are good opportunities to meet some of the guys in the Greek system.

Sorry for the double post, but I heard from my brother today that fraternities at Akron will be participating in "formal fraternity recruitment." I guess it's going to be very similar to the structured format of sorority recruitment where everyone visits every house. I thought this was interesting, and a bit surprising. It's a big change from previous years if it's true.

Kent attempted formal fraternity recruitment one year. The guys just weren't into the structure. They ended up returning to the regular unstructured recruitment the next year.

I stopped by most of the houses this weekend. I am about 90% sure I am going Kappa Sigma, they just seemed to make me feel at home. The others were very stuck up and did not give me the time of day. The guys at kappa sigma just hung out with me and did not try to throw 1000 facts about the fraternity at me like Phi Delt, FIJI, and Alpha Sigma Phi did.
The Kappa Sigma house is not as nice as Phi Delt or FIJI but it is nice and I was not going to chose a fraternity by a house.

Kappa Sigma was only recently chartered at Akron, so it is possible they haven't been added yet.

Kappa Sigma is very new but already has a house, and they are the group that just seemed to have the most brotherhood and the girls that were over were great looking. The other ones i went to had some trashy looking girls there.
