Rooms Party
How many of you have been to a Room's Party? Did you make the drinks or just drink them? We are having one this Saturday with a fraternity and our room is making our usual Strip 'N Go Naked (beer, vodka, and lemonade). I think that there are going to be 10 other drinks being made. I would like to make another drink...any suggestions? I need one that can be made in mass quantity.

Is a rooms party anything like bar golf?
There was a floor in my dorm that did bar golf every year. There were 9 "holes", one in each of the 8 suites and one in the floor lounge. A lot of the drinks were "self-maintaining" so the suite residents could visit other suites and drink, rather than sit around mixing the same drink all night.
Example: One suite did rum and coke. They just left out a bottle of rum, a couple of bottles of coke, and some ice, and people mixed their own drinks. Another suite did gin and tonic - same deal.

The way we do a Room's party is:
We usually do it at a fraternity house and all of the guys usually break into teams of 3 or 4 persons (so the drink won't be as costly) and they usually give my sorority a room that we can make our drink in.
So if there are 10 teams we will have 10 different drinks plus the one my girls make.
Most drinks are usually done kitchen sink style (just thrown together in a container). We usually buy a Rubbermaid container and throw everything in. That way the only mess that people really have to deal with is plastic cups and you don't have to worry about running out of a specific alcoholic beverage or mixer.
I'll post pictures Monday

Ours is usually termed " 'round the world " and we do a variety of drinks from each determined place (room) .
Some we've done, some we've talked about doing
Russia...white & black Russian
Hawaii.....Pina Colada, Daq's
Mexico.....Tequila Shots
UK....Guiness Only in Frosty Mugs
we do more, that's just all i can think of right now

Back in the day when "alcohol" wasn't a dirty word on our campus...
We had a "drink on every floor party" in my dorm. We had 4 floors, and my floor was upside-down Margaritas. Just some Tequila, Margarita Mix, the person sits in a chair and leans back. Pour a shot of each into their mouths, swish, and swallow. Needless to say, after that, most people didn't make it much further!

We also called them "Around the World". They didn't necessarily have geographical themes (although they sometimes did). Other themes were colors (Red Deaths, Blue Hawaiians, etc), and one time one of the fraternities did Seven Deadly Sins (Screaming Orgasms for lust...I can't think of the rest off the top of my head, but it was fairly easy to find drinks that fit after consulting a bartender's guide).

Maze Party
We have something similar here at Santa Clara U.
It's called maze, we have our pledges create a human maze in our backyard made out of cardboard and string. There is usually 12-15 rooms with different drinks in each room. The year I did it we hade Mexico and Texas...with a kiddy pool in the middle as a make shift Rio Grand. You decorate the rooms with diff themes....it's great. Best party yet. Usually a date party.

we called in around the world too...but since we got in trouble, and had to go dry this past semester we changed it to an apartment crawl...
we had 3 apartments that guys from the house live in that are walking distance from the house and made different themes at each one.
apartment 1- the dirty "frat boy apartment": beer, jack and coke, whisky sour, flaming dr. pepper, and amaretto sour.
apartment 2- hawaiian: margaritas, pina colta's, jello shots, and blue hawaiians
apartment 3- i don't remember....i was so fucked up...

I went to a commuter school...you don't have to miss out on anything. Just find someone that has a house close to school who is willing to let you use it for a party

This was before UCF went dry:
We use to have a social with ATO called School Days. Each room in their house was set up like a classroom. Each room was a different class. You had Spanish, Marine Biology, History, English, etc. and a corresponding drink for each class. In History, there were kamikazes, in Spanish there were Pina Coladas, in Geography there were Sex on the Beaches. It was such a fun a social!

AXO81,
Of course I know that you'll follow all of the Risk/Management guidelines.
Third Party Vendor
No underage drinking
Registered Guests only
ID's
Security
Designated Drivers
All the other stuff.
Right?
Somehow, this party doesn't sound like one that lends itself to that.
Have fun, but be careful. The charter (and life) you save may be your own.

DeltAlum,
First of all I'm just want to say that I'm not AXO81, I'm AOX81...I belong to a local organization and don't want you to think that I belong to Alpha Chi Omega.
This party is ALWAYS between my sorority and ONE fraternity at a time. You must be a member of one of the organizations to even walk through the door. If my sorority or the fraternity that we are holding the party with doesn't recognize you forget it you're not getting in. We only hold this party with three organizations because we know them so well.
A third party vendor is not required by any of them when only mixed drinks are being served. A third party vendor is only needed for one house when they want to have a keg.
My sorority always has at least TWO designated drivers for EVERY event that we participate in. We are very, very strict on this. In 1998, my little sisters boyfriend died because of a drunk driving accident and a month later another one of our friends decided he thought he could drive and he also died. Neither one of these events had anything to do with a Greek organized party but it really opened our eyes about how easily is could happen.
Most of us are dating, engaged, married to the brothers that we have parties with so security is not an issue. EVERYONE knows EVERYONE and nothing ever gets out of hand. Anyone who is considered a troublemaker is usually banned from the party.
I'm not going to lie and say that there is no underage drinking but I can tell you that it is probably less than 5 people and it's usually the fraternity guys underage drinking, not us. I just looked at our chapters website and we only have 3 underage girls as of right now and two of them don't drink.
Don't worry we'll be safe. I'll post some pictures.

AOX81,
Sorry about the mistake on your letters. A little dyslexia never hurt anyone! Or maybe it's just advancing age disguised as dyslexia.
Truth is that I was jerking your chain just a little, while trying to point out what might be some good ideas.
I'm glad that you take the precautions that you do -- and am sorry the reasons for part of them came at such a cost. It sounds like your chapter is pretty responsible. The fraternity will appreciate that also since, statistically, a fairly high percentage of damage to fraternity houses is caused by visitors to parties -- thus their (our) insurance rates skyrocket. It sounds like you are pretty good guests.
Again, just be smart and be careful. Have fun. We'll look forward to the pictures.
