Merry got most of the info down. I will add that the recruitment process is a bit overwhelming...like we said, there's 700+ girls rushing. Our recruitment is set up like most everyone else's: fall formal recruitment, mostly afternoon/evening visits, visit all the houses over the space of a week, bid day.
SDSU recruitment is semi-competitive, but a sophomore has a decent chance of getting a bid. I'd be more worried about you getting in to the university itself - we don't take sophomore transfers. SDSU only admits first time freshmen (no college credits earned) and junior transfers (60 semester units completed). I'm sorry to tell you that, if you are transferring as a sophomore, you will not be attending SDSU.
That said, SDSU recruitment is mostly geared to freshmen and sophomores; but, a handful of juniors do find homes during recruitment.
Each house has approximately 30 girls living in. Each chapter determines their own polices about who gets to live in and when.
