Recommendation submission
If I have people writing recommendations for me, when is the latest that all the houses will accept them? I want to meet with my recommendation writer AFTER my first term is over, which will be right after the first rush but 2 weeks before the invite parties begin, so I can include my new grades on my resume. Would this be possible?

There is no set standard for all sororities to follow.
It depends on the chapter. Some chapters accept them right before recruitment starts, others want them a whole month before, etc.

sometimes the date that the chapter would prefer to receive the recs. by is listed on their chapter website.

There's no set standard for this. I've heard of chapters at some of the more competitive schools who won't accept them after July 1 with recruitment in August.
Generally speaking, the sooner before recruitment the better. If you're sending them in too close to recruitment starting, or even after recruitment events have begun, there is the chance that they may not get to the chapter in time and they won't have a rec for you.
Also keep in mind that chapters are VERY busy around recruitment time and if you're sending them in close to or during recruitment, there is also the chance of your rec being "lost in the shuffle" and just not getting where it needs to be because members are too busy working on other things.

if you go to indiana(which it sounds like from your description of the recruitment process), i think that you should have your recs. sent before those open houses they have in the fall. i think the invitation lists are made after those opens houses. sending the recs. might be a moot point , if some of the sororities do not invite you back to the invitation only parties because they did not receive a rec. before their decision was made.
do not confirm to us where you are going to school.

I would second the point made by the previous poster. If you are going to Indiana (not that you should tell us if you are), you need to get the recs sent by early September. I take in numerous rec requests for our alum panhellenic each summer, and every year, the girls come back and tell us how helpful it was to have the recs on file before they got to school.
Many IU chapters use the recs when inviting women to informal events in the early fall, so if you don't have a rec on file early, you may be putting yourself at a disadvantage. One collegian came back after the summer and told me the rec helped introduce her to so many chapters on campus and get to know the girls well in advance of formal recruitment. If you have a concern about grades or something you want your recommenders to know or follow up on, supplemental information could always be sent on your behalf.

All during workshop week and even into Recruitment, we keep checking our fax machine because they keep coming. Many alums call the house, the House Director, and advisors to give "phone recs". The majority of the time it's "I just found out Suzie was going through Recruitment..." or "I didn't know when Recruitment started..." I've had alums call the night before Pref. We don't have an official cut off date, but I tell these late alums that there's no guarantee. If we have the time we'll do it, if not then the PNM is out of luck.
My favorite quote that has become my Recruitment mantra: Your failure to plan ahead does not constitute an emergency on my part.
