Reccomendation Suggestions

Hi all-

During the "recruitment season", I am approached by numerous PMN's for recs and I wanted to pass along some suggestions I have for writing your sorority resume and your picture. Feel free to give your own suggestions--these are just ones that stuck out to me when I am asked for them!

1. For your picture, please do NOT have major cleavage or super short skirts. Usually just a picture of your face is fine but if you do a full body one, BE TASTEFUL.

2. Always include your HS, HS GPA and SAT/ACT score on your resume.

3. Try and make your resume look somewhat professional. You will be doing a million resumes in the years to come, so this is good practice.

4. ALWAYS thank the person who is writing you a rec--it means a lot to them : )

5. Please don't feel bad if you get a rec from someone and then join another house. All sorority women know you end up in the place that is right for you and we just want you to be happy. Most of us have friends in other sororities and know that ALL SORORITY GIRLS are awesome! It really does not hurt our feelings if you go somewhere else!

Anyone else have anything that sticks out?

I would like to add that the resume doesn't emphasis their work history so much! Work history is interesting but not really that necessary. So keep that section short and focus on activities, community service, awards, academics, etc. I know when I was recruiting PNMs back in the day, I really didn't care if she workd at TCBY one summer!

Like almost always, I agree with my sister Glitter : ) Work experience is GREAT but HS awards and activities are better, so put those first!

I would add that the thank you can come prior to Recruitment, or afterwards, with a message saying, "Thank you for the Recommendation. As much as I loved the ladies of XYZ, I accepted a bid to KLM." We ALL want to know how a PNM's Recruitment turned out!

Some chapters want both a facial photo AND a full body one. Whatever the nice woman who will write the Recommendation asks for, it's because it's needed. Please be cooperative.

Excellent thread, btw!
