Another what to wear thread (sorry in advance)
Hi there
So rush for me is coming up soon and I have started to freak out about what to wear. I know I will get the clothes figured out but what I am really worried about is the accessories. From what I have read on the forum it seems that most of you agree that wearing a unique accessory is a good idea because it will make the girls in the house remember you...but I would like to know how unique the accessory should be. Like just an everyday trendy neclace? Or like something that really stands out? I just am afraid that if I wear something that stands out too much I will be know as the freaky girl that wore the ______ neclace or something. Maybe I'm being stupid and worrying about nothing. I am going to be rushing at a medium sized university in the northwest, but I heard there are going to be a lot of girls rushing this year, and I definitely want sororities to be able to remember me! (In a good way, of course...)
And sorry if this topic has been covered already in depth and I just didn't see it! Thanks in advance.

Um, i think that as long as your necklace doesn't have, you know, a severed appendage or a giant taxi cab charm complete with blinking lights, you're probably golden.

ha ha you are hilarious
Okay what if it was some sort of neclace with a tiny jeweled animal pendant that has a great story behind it? Or will some sororities not look past the animal part?
Oh and my dad was a coug.

Be careful with animals. Many GLO's have an animal mascot so check first to make sure it's not one of those. Those whose mascot it isn't might think you are only interested in ABC, while ABC might think you are being a bit presumptuous. The I/nat'l websites for the GLO's on your campus should have this information readily available.

Honestly, in the past 2 years I've recruited I don't remember anyone's jewelry. If i like a girl, i'll remember her because she's awesome, and I'm sure not giving bids based on accessories.
I remember only ONE person based on what she was wearing - and trust me, it was because she looked totally ridiculous, not because she looked cool (without describing her in detail, I'll say that what she wore was ill-fitting, very mismatched, and more middle school appropriate than college appropriate).

Medium sized university in the Northwest, gosh that sounds familiar. I'm guessing large is WSU, U of O, OSU, and UW, medium is us and the Montana schools (if you count Montana in the NW) as well as EWU and UPS, and small is Whitman, Linfield, PSU, BSU, Albertson, ISU and Willamette?
I was imagining from your post that it was a necklace that Wilma Flintstone or Betty Rubble would wear, or something borrowed from Mrs. Roper on Three's Company. Huge beads and animal teeth
I'd check with the groups to see if the animal is their mascot per Zillini's suggestion. I'm an alumna though, so if you are going through at UI you don't have to worry about me seeing it.

I would never call UPS a "medium" size school............they have less than 3000 undergrads.........

I didn't explain why I categorized the schools as I did. I went by number of Greek organizations (sororities in this case). I didn't even think of student population, which makes more sense.

If you have to ask if an item of clothing is appropriate or not, perhaps you should play it safe and leave it at home. As an alum, I cannot imagine a group selecting or rejecting someone on something as superficial as what they did or did not wear. Just be sure that you look respectable and put together and you will find the right group for the right reasons.

Is it the same with jewels? or are they more ambiguous?

IMO, jewels are indeed much more ambiguous. Many sororities have the same jewel(s), so even if you were all decked out in one particular jewel (which I don't necessarily recommend) I don't think it would be seen as being presumptuous of fitting in or getting a bid with a particular sorority.

Definitely agree. There are several groups whose jewel is pearls, but pearls are so classic to wear that no one is going to think you are shooting for a particular group if you wear a full pearl set. Same with diamonds.
