Lightbulb Happy 4th of July:

HAPPY FORTH OF JULY

American Spirit

By

Bill Fries (AKA C. W. [Convoy] McCall)

How ‘bout them fireworks? Pretty cool huh?

Ever wonder why we shoot. Them off on the Fourth?

It’s because we are celebrating our Freedom.

It’s because we are Americans.

And it’s our birthday!

The first three words of the Constitution:

We the People…

We the people and celebratin’ our independence

We are The Declaration of Independence

And the Star Spangle Banner up there in the sky.

We are the Rocket’s Red Glare, the Bombs Burstin in Air.

We are The Fourth of July!

We are The Pledge of Alliance we say to our Flag

The Stars and Strips Forever!

We are the Republic for which it stands.

The United States of America.

Remember?

We are that One Nation, under God,

Indivisible with Liberty and Justice for All

And because we all live in the Land of the Free

We don’t have to say it at all

Unless we want to.

You wanta be counted?

Then stand up and shout it!

Make sure the whole world gets to hear it!

You wanta talk freedom?

We know all about it!

We are the American Spirit!

Taken from American Spirit

By

Mannheim Steamroller and C. W. McCall

The following words were spoken by the late Red Skelton on his television program as he related the story of his teacher, Mr. Laswell, who felt his students had come to think of the Pledge of Allegiance as merely something to recite in class each day.

And a little fun from the guys at JibJab:

It is with great pride that we announce our latest JibJab featuring the US Presidents singing the Star Spangled Banner:

It's not a typical "skewer them alive" kind of JibJab, but rather our own mini-celebration of the greatest @#$% country in the history of human civilization. We hope you enjoy it.

Enjoy your Weekend-Keep it safe and sane.

And remember what it is all about.

Jon

David's song was "interesting" but I remember the original.

"By Mannheim Steamroller and C. W. McCall"

That's fascinating to me.

C. W. McCall, who had the "hit" record called "Convoy" mentioned above, years ago was the mayor of Ouray, Colorado, a spectacular little town in the Uncompagre Mountains in Southwestern Colorado. It's on the beautiful highway that leads from Four Corners up through Silverton, Durango, Cortez and other wonderful small mountain towns.

We went there for July 4th several years in a row in the mid-80's, sometimes meeting guys I worked with from Detroit and San Francisco and their families.

The fireworks up the highway were great, and the daytime events, including a parade down "the" main street and contests between local volunteer firefighters really highlighted some of the traditional feeling of the holiday.

Happy Birthday, America and many happy returns.

Happy Birthday to the country which allows us more freedoms that most of us ever realize. God Bless the USA!

PS: I plan to do my usual reading of the Declaration of Independence tomorrow morning. It's an amazing document, written and signed by patriots the kind of which our country so lacks today.

I loved the jibjab video.

I was just able to hear a 30 minute fireworks display and went outside, hoping to see it, but I couldn't see anything but flashes in the sky. Hopefully I'll see some tomrorow night.

I was flying on the 4th of July once and saw a lot of fireworks from up in the plane and it was very cool.

Happy Birthday USA!

I'd forgotten I was flying into LaGuardia once on July 4 and saw some the fireworks along the river.

Two summers ago, I was living in a residential hotel near the UN and was able to watch the Macys fireworks from a room the hotel made available on the top floor.

Spectacular.

Twice, I was at Alpha Gam conventions on the 4th. In Atlanta, 2001, we could see the fireworks from the hotel and it seemed like we were even with them! I think I was on the 22nd floor. In Chicago in 1993, we were right across from Grant Park and had the evening free so we got to walk across the street, enjoy A Taste of Chicago and watch the fireworks from Grant Park.

Didn't Presidents Jefferson and Adams die on the 50th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence? It was on the History Channel or TLC? I think?

I do want to make this clear:

HAPPY 4TH OF JULY

To all those who serve!!! Thank God for your service to US!!!

Yes, both Presidents Jefferson and Adams died on the same day, July 4, 1826. Calvin Coolidge was the only American President born on the Fourth of July, but I'm not sure of the year.
