Does anyone know how ASCAPA works?
Hello everyone! Well in order to prepare for my rush this fall and thanks to carnation's suggestion, I sent all of my info and requirements to them in order to get reccomendations (its make or break at VSU). I was just wondering how this org. works and if I have to do more and should attempt on getting recs on my own.
PS- Yes I did check the site before I posted this, but I didnt get much on this topic.
THANKS LADIES!!

http://www.ascapa.org/Recruitment.html
They have a VERY detailed Word document on this page with instructions (called Recruitment Information Form & Instructions) about how to go about getting their help with recs.
From the site:
JUNE 10 IS THE DEADLINE FOR ASCAPA TO RECEIVE YOUR FORMS!!
1. Fill out the information sheet COMPLETELY & LEGIBLY in black ink.
2. Photos are optional but strongly recommended because they help a sorority recognize you before parties begin. Photos should be no larger than 4x6, preferably in color, and of you only (e.g. no one else in the photo). Photos printed off from a computer are acceptable.
3. Type a separate resume following the prescribed format shown on the attached form.
4. The numbers shown below indicate the number of National Panhellenic Conference (NPC) sororities at your college. That number is how many copies of your completed information sheets, resumes, photos, and stamps you will need to send to ASCAPA by the June 10th deadline.
• Do not separate the stamps
• Do not use staples; please paper clip everything together.
• Do not send us envelopes
• If your college is not listed or if you cannot find the number of NPC sororities on your college’s website, call the one of the Recruitment Committee Co-Chairpersons listed below.
• Here’s an example of what you need to send: UGA has 17 NPC sororities, so you need 17 filled-out information sheets, 17 resumes, 17 photos (if you plan to include them), and 17 first class postage stamps. If any of these items are omitted, your recommendations will be delayed.
• PAPER CLIP one photo & one resume to one completed information sheet. Do not send this instruction sheet back to us. Attach the total number of stamps required to the top of your packet before placing everything into a large envelope to be mailed to or dropped off at the address shown below. Do not use certified or registered mail because we cannot sign for items sent in that manner.
• DEADLINE: ASCAPA MUST RECEIVE ALL FORMS BY JUNE 10th! After that date, we’ll try to help you obtain recommendations but we cannot guarantee it. NOTE -- If your college has deferred or spring recruitment, contact one of the Recruitment Committee Co-Chairs listed below for a different deadline.

Mmm Hmm...
Well see yes. I already filled out the packets, sent it to them, the whole enchilada. I'm just not very sure how it works after that. Do they contact me, or the alumnae? Do I still have to search for recs on my own? Will they forward them to my school sororities or will I have to? Did me doing this process even help me?? Etc...
Thanks!

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but if they're asking you to send stamps with your materials, I would assume they're sending the completed packets (with recs) to the sororities.
Your best would be to contact them and confirm that since I'm not a member of their group obviously.

When it's possible, they find alumnae of every sorority at the campus where you are going thorough recruitment. They try to find people who know you personally and may, in addition, contact you for more information.
If you turned in a completed packet, you can probably just wait and feel pretty comfortable that the recs will arrive at the chapters without your doing anything else, but of course you can continue to find additional recs from people who know you well to send on your own too.

Actually, I believe they compile info forms from the girls into a packet for each member sorority. The packets are then given to the sorority's representative. The representative takes the packet to her group and they complete their own recommendation forms from the info in the packet.
I would assume that if you gave your info forms to Panhellenic, the members will send recs to the chapters at UGA.
Now, ASCAPA may not have a representative from every UGA sorority. You can ask them if there are any groups NOT represented. If there are, then you would need to find a member of that group to ask for a rec.
BUT...if you, or your mom and dad, know of a sorority member (ask around-you'd be surprised!), DO ask them to write a recommendation for you. It couldn't hurt to have more than one rec to a group.
Good luck!

I know there are some active members of ASCAPA on here... including the founder ... maybe they'll chime in.
But yes, sounds like you have all your ducks in order.
