Pin Purchasing policies

I've seen various policies from different Greek Letter Organizations on what happens if a membership pin comes up on eBay. These include

a) Contact the seller indicating that all pins are the property of the GLO and no one has the right to sell them. They are instructed to send them to the GLOs National Office

b) The GLO has professionals who try to win all of its pins on eBay by bidding.

c) The GLO has groups of alumni who attempt to win all of its pins.

d) The GLO tries to buy special pins, but has no problem with most pins being sold.

e) No policy whatsoever beyond individual alumni who are collectors.

My fraternity (Alpha Phi Omega) is at level e, the pledge pins and brother pins used today cost $5 a piece and its been more or less constant relative to inflation.

Where are your GLOs?

We don't have a formal "badge rescue" group, but we are told to notify HQ and not bid on them.

Same with Alpha Gamma Delta. We're also encouraged to complete the Badge Disposition Form and let our family know our wishes for our Badge in the event of our passing.

FWIW, I'm all for rescuing the very early sorority Badges to preserve our history. They just don't make Badges like that anymore. The new GK stuff? Notsomuch.

There is an organized group of volunteer alumna who do try and rescue badges, but they do not rescue *all* badges that find their way on eBay.

One of the main aspects of the group is education -- to make active and alumna members aware of what to do with their personal badge upon their passing (we also have a Badge Disposition Form) and what to do if they do find a badge on eBay, in a pawn shop or in an antique store.

Perhaps it'll be a hootshinpaloozaree. I don't know.

Our policy is the same.
