Teke Suspended for 3 Years (Wisconsin - Whitewater)
Tau Kappa Epsilon at Wisconsin-Whitewater has been suspended for three years.
The university and Teke national imposed the suspension for serious misconduct, although according to the news story the school isn’t releasing any details due to privacy laws:

They had a house fire at some point last fall...I wonder if it had anything to do with that. The greek system at that school has some issues.

Conduct unbecoming of a TKE Chapter is the easiest to explain.

When TKE National suspends a chapter, whatever happened had to be serious. In my (limited) experience, they are a lot slower than most to close undergrad chapters due to risk reduction issues -- and from what I've seen, that is the sort of attitude which has helped them to have more chapters than anyone else out there.

LXA also a few years back suspended our chapter there.
They are now in line to be rechartered.
I wonder what is going on with the school itself and how they deal with GLOs.
But saying TKE must have done something overly bad, well?
I know TKE members and respect them but a generalization is?
You are right Kevin, it has to be serious!
None of us want to see anything like this.

Exceerpts from Associated Press story on a regional news outler web site:
Assistant Dean of Student Life Mary Beth Mackin said the university suspended Tau Kappa Epsilon after learning that alcohol and underage drinking were the central focus of many fraternity events. Many members routinely drank to excess, she said.
Pledges also were forced to eat and drink strange things such as raw onions and prune juice, were yelled at by senior members and made to do exercises, chores and other acts of servitude, she said.

Sold drugs, got caught. What a surprise. It amazes me that the entire chapter didnt get its charter revoked. Thats what happens in New England.

Maybe more to it than you or others know.
With the low tolerence in this day and age, what should the chapters expect?
It degrades all of us as Greeks if it is not handle properly.

This is why fraternities do what they do in this day in age. They think that because alumni fooled around in the past they can do the same. Now more and more greek societies are going "dry" because of liability issues. Who wants to pay thousands of dollars for a chapter house, then lose it in a lawsuit that revolved around ecessive drinking, or lose your charter because of it. I guess this is the "prohibition" era for us all, as much as it sucks. Drugs are the issue as well. If you wanna get high, go to someone else's chapter and do it. Its not worth working your ass off to get a chapter established then losing it over drug and alcohol abuse.
