UTA has its homecoming in the Spring (since we have no football team, we celebrate during basketball season). Our 2008 events are listed here.

There aren't any Greek-only events. Everything is open to everyone. Most of the events are heavily attended by Greeks, but there are still several independents participating.

Homecoming typically is a whole week of competitions and events, typically only Greeks participate (with a few other groups like Res Life joining in). Since there are 7 sororities and like 18 fraternities, each sorority is typically paired with 2 or 3 fraternities (depending on the size of the groups). The main competitions are:

* Window decorating: Each of the groups has to decorate a window in the student center in the theme of Homecoming for that year (i.e. Roast the Redhawks).

*Flag/banner competition: Same principal as the above, except you hang it in the stundent center over the stairs and it's typically smaller scale than the window thing.

*Roll Call: It's a dance/skit competition based on the theme. It's a pretty big deal between all the sororities.

and back by popular demand this fall is

*The Homecoming Parade and Float Contest:The parade is back, and the each of the pairs/groups creates a float based on the theme and they are judged.

^^^ Does your campus participate in Greek Week as well? Or does this take the place of it?

No, there is also a Greek Week in the spring, along with Relay for Life, and Songfest (all Greek-related competitons).

At FIU, Homecoming isn't officially "Greek only" but it might as well be, since Greeks are the only student organizations that participate.

I got initiated in fall semester and we didn't participate in the fall because of misunderstandings with the sorority we were doing it with, but I'm pretty sure it consists of:

-Lip Sync
-Comedy show*
-Banner
-Float
-Parade
-Concert*

*These aren't things the students participate in, just events for us to go to.

We also have Greek Week, which was brought back this year and is more "greek unity" oriented than anything, Relay for Life, and Dance Marathon which are also majority-Greek events.

At UCF, our Homecoming events are open to everyone. Greeks make up most of the groups, although Honors College, dorms, etc participate. The main competitions are...

Philanthropy: Mainly we get points for the percentage of the team that comes to the events or donates to the philanthropy.

Skit Knight: Everyone has a 15 minute skit / lip sync / dance based on the year's homecoming theme. It's a big deal on campus!

Parade: Each team puts a float together for the parade. Pretty simple =D

Fountain Guard and Banner: Each team designs a 'fountain guard' to use during Spirit Splash (our HC pep rally) and a banner to put in the arena.

There are also spirit points for attendance at other events, like the carnival and movie night. Like other people have mentioned, we have Greek Week in the spring semester.

We do several activities, but nothing is Greek exclusive. We're a smaller campus and a fairly small Greek community, that wouldn't be too feasible and we don't want to exclude any organization from participating.

We do:
* Spirit Competition (points for placing and participating in competitions and attending certain events, similar to Greek Week scoring-for us at least)
* Kick-off picnic in a plaza - fun, games, food, announce HC court
* Casino night w/prize auction
* Service activity - the HC court nominees usually read at a local elementary school
* Org spirit day - they wear their org's shirt and check in btwn a certain time
* Fry-day fiesta (we're on the coast and serve fried fish) - food, games
* Islander Revue - song and dance, like Greek Sings. Mostly Greeks participate and 1 or 2 non-Greeks.
* Blue & Green Day - giveaways, University gear fashion show, M&M guessing contest (blue and green M&M's of course!), trivia contest and spirit yell contest
* basketball decorating competition (we also don't have fball)
* sidewalk chalk graffiti contest (orgs decorated a sidewalk square with chalk)
* housing hoopla - fun and games near housing
* pep rally
* Up All Night - from 9:30pm-2am; many different activities like twister, eating contests, dance lessons, magician/hypnotist (varies each year), etc
* Ring ceremony - seniors get their rings in a formal ceremony attended by family and friends.
* parade before the game on saturday - most chapter participate; not elaborate.

And the usual alumni meetings, receptions, parent's council stuff

"The University of Missouri started the tradition of Homecoming in 1911 when MU football coach and Director of Athletics Chester Brewer invited former students to "come home" to Columbia, MO for the annual football game between the University of Missouri and the University of Kansas. This tradition has spread throughout the world, but the University of Missouri still boasts the largest student-run Homecoming in the nation."

we have: house decs, parade, skit, blood drive, service, banner, royalty and decorate the district. homecoming is october 25th this year but it's already well under way as far as we're concerned. (we elected committees and got pairings in APRIL!).

does no one else pomp anymore?
