Randomness

This could happen to any chapter...anywhere...

There once was a Lambda Chi Alpha chapter...all of the actives and AMs were really excited because a new school year was about to start. To celebrate the nascent semester, they decided to hold a "pre-party".

Since the school calendar hadn't officially taken effect yet, they figured that they could invite some sororities over to have some fun -- without the usual paperwork those Greek Affairs folks keep forcing fraternities & sororities to fill out, this would really be a nice, laid-back evening.

One sorority came over...then another...and a third. Pretty soon the Lambda Chi chapter had a whole bunch of people hanging out at their house. What a party! There were so many people in the house that they couldn't even count them...

Little did the Lambda Chis know, but there were some uninvited "guests" that decided they wanted to have some of the refreshments that were being offered to one and all.

These guests weren't members of Lambda Chi Alpha...or SAE...or any other GLO, for that matter. No, these guests were "randoms"...probably guys who attend the university or live in town, w/no Greek affiliation.

As it so happened, 4 or these "randoms" cornered one of the sorority ladies in an upstairs bedroom. They groped her and were prepared to do more than that...but the sorority sister broke away and locked herself into a bathroom.

Once she knew she was safe, she called her boyfriend to let him know what had happened. He arrived soon and they were reunited.

And the "randoms"? They just kinda disappeared into the night from whence they came...perhaps to return another day.

What happened to the Lambda Chis? Well, folks from IHQ came out to learn more about the events of that evening. The chapter was placed on social probation.

The moral of the story: Guys, you're A-L-W-A-Y-S "on the clock" as members of a fraternity. Just because the school year hasn't started isn't a reason to let down your guard.

Were this a party held during the semester, the usual precautions would've been in effect: 3rd party vendors, guest lists, guards watching who walks where, etc.

As they used to say on "Hill Street Blues", "Hey...let's be careful out there."

In ZAX,
BF

Learn from this.

Unfortunately, on today's college campus, brothers now need to be security guards for any social event.

Is it just me or is rape and assualt happening more and more, or is it just that the media is now reporting it?

The truth of this story is so evident and sad.

When having fun, it negates many minds about what should be tended to. It also points out that haveing fun many things are forgoten and a watchful eye is not looking.

We as Greeks are under a microscope as we can see every day.

This is actually the first time I've read this horrible story. That's really sad.

This was the reason I used to tell the members of my chapter that I didn't want to see a bunch of their annoying non-Greek friends at any of our parties. They always wanted to invite them and all they ever did was cause problems if they showed up.

I was High Alpha when many members of our chapter and some unaffiliated friends got into a brawl with SAE at a local bar. I wound up having to go before IFC with the president of SAE and we both got hit with a big fine and probation. We were even ordered to have a mixer with SAE; which our ELC agreed was a just punishment. We went through all of the terms of our punishment except for the mixer...

... SAE was kicked off campus a semester later; something about a rape on a drunken girl at a party at UNM. Not even their home chapter or even in the state...

Amazing how outside people can get you into huge trouble.

Cube, this isy we as Brothers need to be very vigilant to our surroundings no matter what!

If it is a Brother, it is easier to handle one on one.

If it is randoms them while a little harder, it still needs to be taken care of very quickly and get them out of there.

While my mother always used to say, wear clean underwear in case you are in a wreck. This sounds like it was the wreck.
