Dues

I have been trying to find a thread close to this but I haven't found one yet...so i will just ask.

Can anyone tell me kind of how paying dues works. Does a new member have to pay them all at once, monthly, broken up into two semesters. I am more asking about new member dues, but any other advice would be great also.

I realize that every chapter will be a little bit different but could anyone tell about how they have had to pay dues in the past.

It depends on the member and the options provided by the chapter. Some people pay for the whole semester at their first meeting while others are on a payment plan. Payment plans can be 2-3 installments but the balance is usually due before the end of the semester.

It also depends on the housing situation as well as the financial plan set by the NHQ. Your chapter might request dues once a semester, but HQ might assess dues once per year. Usually, however, no matter the chapter, payment plans are available if needed.

It really depends on the sorority and chapter.

New members in my chapter only had ONE payment plan option. Being a new member involves several one-time fees that needed to be paid to HQ in a very specific time frame. For example, your badge fee is due to HQ by a certain time in the semester. We had to have all of the new girls on a similar payment schedule so that everything would get turned in on time.

So if you were a new member, you automatically were placed on our new member payment plan, unless you had some sort of emergency, in which case the girls worked something out with the treasurer.

Initiated members had different payment plan options, since there aren't any extra new member fees involved. You could pay in full at the beginning of the year, pay in 2 semesterly installments, or pay 4 installments over the year (with due dates perdetermined).

Beyond that, girls would need to see the treasurer directly if they were having an emergency situation and wanted to work out a different plan. These were at the treasurer's (and financial advisor's) disrection though and were not the norm.

I pay all my dues at the beginning of the semester and I think that there's a discount for paying all at once. Usually your treasurer will let you work out how to pay it a little at a time though.

A few of the sororities use the fee bill option too for their initiated members.

lsucajun8, when you go get your Recruitment Journal, specific financial information will be included. Good luck and GEAUX TIGERS!

I am not familiar with dues being built into school tuition and find that somewhat to beleive? Would like to get more information and verification on this!

Dues for PNM go toward getting a PNM pin, a manual, and paper work at IHQs.

This has nothing to do with living in the house and payments as most schools do not allow Frosh to live in the GLO houses for the first semester.

Initiation dues yearly dues are for actives only and many times, the initial payment includes a basic active badge.

House payments for room and board are seperate just as living in an apartment or dorm.

I am sure that they can be grouped in a common payment, but it would depend on the GLO and how their accounting system is set up.

He meant "billed" not "built." Participating organizations, for a percentage, can enroll in the university billing system. When a student is billed for tuition and other university fees, the organization's fee will be line itemed on the total bill. The university then turns those fees over to the organization. Originally, it was only for housing, parlor fees, and house meals, but has since been extended to dues.

Just because you've never heard of something happening, doesn't mean it doesn't happen.
