The ability of young Americans to drink alcohol in a social setting and remain civilised is usually regarded as one of the advantages they have over their British peers.
But, in recent weeks, the fraternity societies of American universities have been working flat out to even things out, their "hazings" - initiation rites - notching up more police call-outs than a Saturday night in Detroit.....

The Brits better be glad we Americans haze. It's what made us tough enough to save their tails during W W 2.

Humm-CrackerBarrel that is a rather interesting thought.
There is even a chance it could be right.
I will have to ask my Uncle about it. He has spoken about his Bronze Star, CIB and few other matters starting with second wave at Omaha Beach.
But nothing about hazing.
Nor did my late eye doctor who was senior in combat time in the entire US Navy as Gunnery Officer on a DD.

However, WWII has very little if anything to do with this Op-Ed piece dealing with issues and matters of today.

I bet your late eye doctor knew plenty about hazing. Google "Neptunus Rex" or "Crossing the Line" and see what you get (even photos!), or see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Line-crossing_ceremony or http://www.history.navy.mil/faqs/faq92-4.htm (the subpoena of Franklin Roosevelt is great).

Well then a better question might be - who cares what the Brits think of our Greek system? They don't have a fraternity system and I'm never planning on working for a Brit.

True, in some ways it may not matter at all.
I posted it in part because I was rather surprised that an Editorial/Op-Ed piece was even written and run there.

I'll agree, that is a little odd considering that GB doesn't really even have a Greek system.

I did read it. My comment was just directed at your comment about your eye doctor never mentioning being hazed in the Navy. Sorry I missed that if you meant it sarcastically.
