UW FIJI Brother Dies in Collision with Bus

This is very sad, and happened just off greek row at University of Washington, just a block or so away from the FIJI house. The victim is also a recent grad of my high school, as are I think several of his brothers in the fraternity. I hope his family, friends, the witnesses and the poor bus driver will all be OK.

Skateboarder dies in collision with Metro bus in U-District

By Sonia Krishnan and Peyton Whitely
Seattle Times staff reporters

A young man riding his skateboard in the street in the University District died early this morning after he collided with a Metro bus, police said.

The crash occurred about 1:20 a.m. when a bus, traveling south on University Way Northeast, crossed paths with the 19-year-old victim who was headed west on Northeast 45th Street, police said. The bus had a green light, Seattle police spokeswoman Reneé Witt.

The skateboarder ran into the side of the bus and fell under the rear wheels, she said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The victim, Chase Anderson, of Bellevue, was a business major at the University of Washington and on the dean's list this year.

I spent some time at our Chapter at the UW. I still recall the area a bit.
Such a shame.
Best thoughts and wishes to all.

How sad. I lived in the U-district while in grad school...the busses are everywhere. Every now-and-then you hear about stuff like this. It's always such a tragedy.

Some of the local TV coverage:

It looks like his fraternity brothers were some of the first on the scene, captured on video. Really tragic.

^^^The footage of his brothers in that third link especially is heartbreaking.

What an awful tragedy. I can't imagine the shock and loss his parents, family & friends are feeling. Seemed like an extremely talented, well-rounded young man. And so adorable! He and all those missing him will be in my thoughts and prayers.

Another very sad moment for the Greek Community. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family and to the brothers of FIJI.
