Question Greek Expansion

I am a Chapter and Expansion Consultant for a national fraternity. I am interested in learning about the expansion policies and procedures from various campuses.

I know that this is usually one of the most controversial and contentiontious that an IFC can face. I'd like to get a feel for how undergrads feel about the issue in general.

ZBTEx - i'm currently on the IFSC at our school, and from my end i am actively seeking expansion. although we already have a relatively strong ZBT chapter at our school, i guess the point is that many schools (and fraternity systems) are looking for national organizations to expand - for us however, it requires the national to come in and take care of business, to essentially put in all the time to start the colony and watch over it. hope this helps -

Not an undergrad anymore but....

Expansion is great, but I think that more attention needs to be paid to strengthening the chapters that already exist on a campus. It seems that nowadays, colleges would rather throw out the chapter that might be going through a numbers crisis or something similar, rather than pulling together as a unified Greek system to help the chapter.

Remember that when a college loses a chapter, they often lose the support of that chapter's alums as well.

I agree with the statement that many schools are if not anti Greek they frown on them because of some of the events thathave taken place. THe SAE chapter at Rockhust U. In K>C> Mo. was just kicked off of campus and their charter pulled. They cannot come back on campus for 3 yrs. That seems to be the norm for Greek Orgs.
The main problem as I see it is while many schools are semi Greek because of some of the things Greeks do, if not for the Greeks on campus there would little if any kind of Homecoming or people sitting on commitees. If there is a week greek system there then there is no sense in trying to establish more Orgs. or is there! I look at a lot of schools and see more Greek Chapters on campus thn my school but it always has been tough for Greeks. Greeks do more good than not. We lose Chapters for the things that a few do and We are no longer on campus. The SAE problem was on the 10 O'clock news the first item and droned on and on. I was so upset that I got out of bead and sent the station a very heated EM. This is in a major Market, K. C.
While it was not my Fraternity, they were Greeks. I love my Fraternity first, but I care very much about the Greek system! All one has to do is look at the important people who are Greeks! THat should tell you something!!!!!

I don't think that our campus really has an expansion policy. We only have one national fraternity and one local fraternity...so they basically do whatever they want.

There was an interest group at the school that I went to that were looking to start a new fraternity because they didn't fit in with the two on campus. Maybe you can help them out. E-mail me if you want more info.
