Post Bars, Bouncers, & Fake IDs

Okay, I was reading an article on College Club about drinking and fake IDs, etc. Now, I'm 21 so I don't have to worry about getting in places and I've never had a fake ID, but when I was underage it would really piss me off that some little hoochie mama wanna be in a trampy outfit would go to the front of the line and get a bracelet/stamp when it was sooooooooooo obvious that she was nowhere near 21. This one time (at the bar, not band camp ), one of my sisters gave her little her old ID and they both showed up at the bar within 15 minutes of each other and both got in with no trouble. How often to people get caught or bouncers reprimanded/fired? Does this bother anyone?

Bars have to realize that people aren't 21, however, they also realize that they will make money off of those people. Plus, the bars/bouncers won't get in trouble unless they are letting people in without IDs or IDs that are obviously fake. However, if someone has an ID that validates that they are "supposedly" 21, a bouncers job ends there. So, that is the deal.

I know in Louisiana, the minimum age to get into a bar is 18. Some have higher ages, but most of them let you in at 18. They put a big X on your hand if you're under 21, and you get a bracelet if you're 21+. Either way, its a really simple system to circumvent. And that's just in Baton Rouge.

I've been to bars in Uptown (New Orleans) that just check to see if you're 18 and that's it. No one really cares past that point once you're inside. Most of the ones there didn't even have a cover charge.

I don't think it just happens w/ girls.. I checked ID's for a bar for a while in college, and hey, cute guys just kidding. But seriously, the only time I wouldn't let people in was when they were trying to use the same ID for two people (at the same time) or they were SO bad that no one would let them in. I guess it was because I had one from the time I was 16, and hey, it's fun The drinking age is too damn high anyways.. you can get drafted and killed for your country, but you can't get in the local tap for a beer... COME ON.

I would never get a fake bc no one would believe it. I look really young. No matter what I wear or do. Plus I have a baby voice that I can't stand. It really pisses me off when these 14 yr old girls can get 24 yr old guys to date them and I am almost 20 and can't get a guy my age to date me!
I also hate when I go to the movies and 13 yr old girls give me dirty looks and they are dressed like hookers. Excuse me for having my body covered when I go to the movies, but it is cold in the theater. Plus I figure if a guy meets me and likes me when I'm not all dressed up he's a keeper. If I meet a guy dressed up then he may think I look like that all the time. It is better, in my opinion, to see the worst. Oh well I am screwed either way!

I went to a club once, where you only had to be 18 to get in, and I was 18 at the time, so I had a legal ID. Problem is, the picture had been taken when I was 15, and really didn't look much like me at all. So when I handed it to the bouncer he just kind of gave me a look that made it obvious to me he thought it was a fake. There was also a cop standing right next to him. He finally let me in, but it was so embarrassing to have him analyze me like that when the ID wasn't even fake!

When I was 18 I used my big's ID (Hes 6'3" and I am 5"10), but it worked everywhere. I always get carded tho, especially when I have my ball cap on. Everyone thinks Im 18, instead of my real age (which remains under wraps)

Picture ID's are good news and bad news.

When I was in college, the bars required at least two ID's. Usually a college ID and a Draft Card (They still had that then), or Draft Card and Driver's license.

Of course women didn't get drafted, so they had an advantage.

I've seen this happen, but only with girls. While the bouncer will card every guy who looks under 30, he can be a bit more lenient with the ladies.

The bar is going to win double if the girls are cute, as the guys will attempt to buy her drinks all night long. Also, if the bar gets a good rep as being a place where ladies come to regularly, then more guys will come to the bar as well, and spend more money on their own drinks, and drinks for girls.

Unfortunate yes, but the way things are.

There is a place here where before I was 21 I'd go to every now and then. It's after-hours started around 1 but no one got through the door until 1 15 to 1 30. It totally sucked because it would be the dead of winter and girls in tiny little shirts and skirts would be freezing their butts off. I didn't like going there because it seemed that once I got it and payed my 8 dollars...yikes...I was grossed out by the other teeny boppers being nasty on the dance floor, OR, I was molested by some geek who thought because I was in the vacinity he could dance with me. URG. Those were times my sisters came in handy. LOL.
Now that I am 21 and can go anywhere I please...I avoid that place and refuse to go there at ALL COSTS.

For all you minors who can't wait to be 21, think of it this way. It's cheaper to be a minor and have people donate to your cause than to be 21 and have to buy. Not that I would know...lol.

Kinda off topic but the thing that used to piss me off the most about bars is the charge for minors. Every club/bar would charge like 4-5 bucks more if you were a minor. I know why they do this, because minors aren't buying drinks but it still made me mad. It was almost like paying for a movie just to go hang out somewhere. Ok, rant over

When I turned 18 I couldn't wait to be 21 so I went out and got an ID from GUAM. Yeah--isn't that pathetic? It worked a lot and not once did I get turned down nor did it ever get confiscated.

A year later we heard that a lot of clubs and bars were cracking down on GUAM ids because I guess businesses knew that fake GUAM ids were easy to make as those IDs didn't have a hologram at that time (they do now).

But then my cousin introduced me to her friend, and I swear she could've been my twin. She had black hair and I had my hair highlighted, but other than that we look so much alike. She even offered to go down to the DMV and get a duplicate license for me so I could use it. So, for two years I was Candace Fujimoto.

Looking back I can't believe I went through all of that just to pay a reduced cover so I could wear a 21+ wristband.

Well Ms. Fujimoto, what we do around these parts is just find a place that lets minors in. We police ourselves pretty well, so the obviously teens dont go, but we have a joint right down the street that has always allowed minors in and drink, as long as they are with us. We tip VERY well. and never get carded. For you miniors, just find a dive bar and make nice with the barstaff. Worked for us.

When I was in school, there was a microbrewery/restaurant a short walk from campus that *never* carded. They had a huge business But, most bars in Boston are 21+ (some are 23+) and they card *everyone*.

I did once bluff my way into a 19+ bar when I was 18, by showing my college ID and saying I'd left my license at home... (it was 19+ basically to keep high school kids out)

At my school, the bar age is 19, which was pretty cool. Your chances of getting in with an obviously fake ID really depended on the bar and the night of the week. If you tried to use one at the most popular bar on a Friday, your chances were slim. But if you went to one of the less popular bars on a Monday or Tuesday, they would usually let you in, sometimes barely looking at your face to see if you remotely matched the ID.

Looking back on my college days, it's amazing how lenient some bouncers really were. I'm 6'6" and used to lend my ID to guys who not only didn't really look like me, but who were barely 6 feet themselves. And more often than not, it worked. I think a lot of bouncers are lenient because they're students just like the bar patrons are, and they were probably in the same situation once upon a time. And as others have said, it increases the revenues for the bar.
