TIFFANY AND COMPANY THEME

Do any of your chapters use this for any night of Recruitment!? We are changing our Theme night to "PHI MU AND COMPANY" and I need some ideas! Any help/pictures will be greatly APPRECIATED!! Thanks girls!!!

I'd advise against that theme at my school because it seems elitist. A chapter had Their chapter name and Co. Tiffany Blue sweatshirts and i know that it a lot of people reacted really badly. Then again, things might be totally different at your school.

It depends on the school- On our campus my chapter had a DG-Chanel night when i went through [and having a chanel bag was very popular] and all the girls loved it.

Our bid night shirts were Tiffany themed. The front says Theta & Co. est. 1870. On the back the sisters had "Sisters are forever" and we new girls had "Introducing our Fall 2007 Collection"

I'm not sure how you would work a theme night around a jewelery store. There's the Tiffany blue colour, of course. Hmmmmm .. .

We did this a few semesters ago. Theta Phi & Co. A Classic Since 1912

We painted small boxes the Tiffany blue and wrote Theta Phi & Co. on them. Inside were questions we were using for the activity we did with them. We eventually gave the new members the boxes as a gift.

Tiffany blue and silver M&Ms. Same color stars, confetti, balloons etc all over the room. More Tiffany boxes wrapped in the white ribbon. A lot of us wore those bracelets/necklaces with the heart and heavy chain.

My chapter did this. They stopped the year after I went through rush because Panhellenic started making us shirts that were the same in diff. colors.

Anyways-they had Tiffany blue three quarter length sleeved shirts, with the names of the sisters embroidered in bold, white, simple cursive, and white skirts that were at least knee length and A-line. (Shirts were often passed down -damn be the name on them LOL and people often did this or swapped if their shirts were stained or what have you.)

Shoes: nude or white (my chapter used nude)

The tables had larger (Bottom) to small (top) stacked Tiffany blue boxes wrapped in white ribbon (the entire thing was wrapped in one ribbon with a bow at the top, they weren't individually wrapped).

I don't remember other details but white hair ribbons would have been nice

It was a good seller because a lot of sororities on my campus did their own colors and the PNMs weren't expecting Phi Mus in blue. I personally didn't like it because of the elitist/high-class feel it gave me, (and had I not wanted to be a Phi Mu before, it might have put me off big time) but a lot of my pledge class loved it. It got them good returns for the next night.

My chapter did this and actually had a picture of the heart tag bracelet on the back of the t-shirt with ZTA engraved on it. I heard it went over well. Later, other chapters borrowed the idea, it seems to get passed around every couple of years and tweaked only slightly. We also did a Victoria's Secret theme with black t-shirts with pink writing (Zeta's Secret on the front in Vicki's font) with "Sisters with a heavenly fit" on the back with the Bid Day date. That may be slightly less elitest if you're worried about offending someone with a Tiffany theme.

my chapter's recruitment shirts had a tiffany's theme. they were tiffany blue with "APhi & Co" on the front and on the back it said "Class... it's not just something you attend." I agree you have to be careful about looking elitist-- I think it's a good idea to just use the colors (blue, white, silver) in the room decorations without going too overboard about it because it might turn some girls away who either a) can't afford/don't like tiffany jewelry or b) get the wrong impression that you only want a certain type of girl.

The Sigma Kappas did a Tiffany and Co. theme during recruitment and it's a pretty big hit every year. I don't see it as elitist, I just thought it was cute.
They had everything really elegant looking in tiffany's blue, and the shirts said "Sigma Kappa and Co.". I think their bid day shirts were the same color as well.

My chapter this past fall used the Tiffany & Co. theme for our chapter recruitment shirts. The other sororities on campus LOVED them! On the front, we had "Alpha Gam & Co.", then on the back we had the Tiffany & Co. silver heart that said the same thing, and it said "est. in 1904." Below that, it said "Now awaiting our fall collection". It has been my favorite recruitment shirt by far!

Is it just me, or does anyone else think that anything "Tiffany & Co." related should stay with Tiffany & Co.?

Most of you have seen that unfortunate trailer trash Tiffany & Co. themed wedding on Bridezilla last year. I can't help but think that T&Co. themed rushes are just as tacky.

It's like having a Goach bag and passing it off as the real thing. And then there's that Louis Vuitton wedding...

For all I know, I'm probably the only one. Sorry, I just think it's tacky and overdone.

It isn't just Tiffany & Company that I don't like seeing, it is any retail, copyrighted, or trademarked theme. I'd like to think that a) were more creative than that and b) everyone has done it by now so the attempted cachet is completely lost. I am a huge fan of creating slogans, themes, and ideas that aren't attached to luxury retail items or brand names. That goes for all groups, men, women, service, honorary and so on.

You would like to think we are more creative than that, but let's remember who the actives are appealing to - primarily 18 and 19 year olds. This is a group that is extremely "market driven." Labels, tv shows, movies, songs - these are all fairly common ground for pnms. (I am generalizing and do realize there are exceptions to this) We know that no pnm thinks the XYZ's are the original Tiffany and Co nor are they trying to pass themselves off as that. They are just reaching out to their "audience" with something that they can more than likely relate to.

I don't think it is a bad or insulting idea to find a common area to appeal to new members - catch their attention, relate to them, etc. If all you do is stick with the theme and never educate them on your GLO, then you have missed the point. But, if you are using the retail/logo theme to entice and stir up initial interest so you can have a basis for other ways to interact and get to know them, then I don't see the problem.

As a high school teacher, I have used lots of techniques like this to spark interest in a topic before I delve into the facts and details. It works and does not belittle the subject matter.

I don't know how many of you read the Fine Lines feature on jezebel.com, but a couple weeks ago they got into a tangent of how back in the day young adult books never used real prestige brands - they made up names instead. I can attest to that - the only name I ever remember seeing was Levi's as the anti-prestige brand. But now in Gossip Girl and all those other type books, there's 20 references to LV, Prada, what have you in the first chapter. The bad thing is that it's going to really "date" the books - no one is thinking that far, I guess.

My point I guess is that this age group has been deluged with brands in every aspect of their life since they could walk. Rush really isn't different.

And honestly - it's not any worse than the 8 zillion "Late Night with Insert Sorority Here" skits that were done when Letterman was still the Late Night host. If you got through rush in the 80s without seeing one of those, sister, I salute you.
