Post Academic performance and grades

Have some of you out there notice that some frat and sorrority members had barely graduated college by the seat of their pants due to their poor grades and academic performance. I knew someone who pulled two quarters back to back taking a total of 8 classes to graduate since he was threatened with dismissal for having a low gpa for the 3rd consecutive quarter in a row. He originally started as a Sig Ep out of Texas and the problem was that he seemed do more socializing than actually going to class.

This almost got him thrown out and no university or college would take him since he applied to other schools in Texas and elsewhere he was denied admission for poor grades. A small private college in Lake Forest, IL was the only college that would take him with the grades he had because had he been declined for admission he would have had to spend a year and a half in a junior college to clean up his grades and then re-apply to a university.

Do some organizations make it clear that their members are to maintain their grades to stay on the active member list while they are in school? It seems like grades don't matter to some people when in fact it does since I am not sure if I am right, but members who stay in the campus frat or sorrority house have to maintain their grades or else they have to move out? Half the people I knew in frats and sorrorities seemed to have low grades by the time they graduated few ever had anything past a 3.0.

Is peer pressure so bad for some people that they can't tell their friends no to hanging out and drinking when they have exams and quizzes to prepare for in school? I seriously think it is because this guy I knew didnt seem to have the incentive to tell people no when he had to prepare for tests in class(he's an accounting major) and some of the classes he had were pretty intense. I also heard from people he lived with in the dorm that he an endless stream of girls coming in and out of his room at all hours of the day and night. He was always nice to me and when we talked or hung together he wasnt goofy or silly, but his involvement with his frat made him rather distant to where he would choose hanging with knuckleheads and groupies over those who had their acts together and were mature.

It seemed the only time this guy actually got his head straight on something was when he passed the licensure exam on the first shot for his job and that was rare since people with a party mentality tend to have to repeat classes or licensure exams because they can't keep their focus straight. Yet how do organizations handle members who have a hard time staying focused on their studies and maintaining passing grades?
