Bizarre state laws

Hello everyone,

I was watching Montel today and today's topic was Bizarre state laws. Did you guys know that:

• In North Dakota, it is illegal to to serve beer and pretzels at the same time in any bar.
• In New York, it is illegal to talk to someone in any elevator.
• Also in New York, a person can get fined $25 if he/she flirts with someone else.
• In Oklahoma, it is illegal for 3 or more dogs to congregate on private property without a signed permit from the mayor.
• In Iowa, a couple may kiss in public for no more than FIVE minutes.
• In Florida, it is illegal to sing in public while wearing a bathing suit.

Remember--I didn't make these up! If you have other bizarre laws you know of, post them here!

We have this kind of stuff for trivia at chapter meetings (to lighten up the mood)sometimes. What I remember most is that in Chicago it is illegal to eat inside a restaurant that's on fire. LoL, nuff said.

Oh my gosh, OTW. I was about to post the same thing - it's funny, I saw the exact same show, and was thinking - let me ask the NY GCers if it's true that you can't talk inside the elevator!!!

How about this (also from Montel):

-In Texas (forgot which part), you cannot walk BAREFOOT without first paying a 5.00 permit, otherwise you're fined a large sum of money!!!

-In California, you can't molest (no, not that way, lol) a butterfly.

-Forgot where, but in some place, women can't wear high heels on the street!!!!! (B/c there was an instance where a woman was wearing high heels, fell through a hole, and sued the city.)

Any New Yorkers here on GC? So, it's true that you can't talk on the elevator? Why, does anyone know??

It may be a law, but it certainly wouldn't ever be put in effect! We New Yorkers can't ever stop talking, let alone in an elevator! So, no, I don't think anyone's ever felt the brunt of that law. Could you even imagine???!!!

I do wish they'd ban cell phone talking in certain places...but that's a whole 'nother thread!

Here in Miami (Florida) its illegal to have sex any other way buy missionary..that means no oral sex..
someone told me this.. not sure how true it is..
i cant imagine how they would regulate this.. does anyone ever follow these stupid laws?

These are DUMB LAWS in OHIO:

Women are prohibited from wearing patent leather shoes in public.
It is illegal to fish for whales on Sunday.
It is illegal to get a fish drunk.
It is illegal for more than five women to live in a house.

In BAY VILLGE, OHIO, it is illegal to walk a cow down Lake Road.

Cincinnati
Anal intercourse is banned.

Clinton County
Any person who leans against a public building will be subject to fines.

Cleveland
It's illegal to catch mice without a hunting license!
Women are forbidden from wearing patent leather shoes, lest men see reflections of their underwear.

Columbus
It is illegal for stores to sell corn flakes on Sunday.

Fairview Park
It's against the law to honk your horn "excessively". A grandmother was fined for honking her horn twice at her neighbor.

Items left on a tree lawn become city property. A young man was fined for removing an item from a tree lawn even though he had the owner's permission.

Ironton
Cross-dressing is against the law.

Lima
Any map that does not have Lima clearly stated on the map cannot be sold.

Lowell
It is unlawful to run a horse over five miles per hour.

Marion
You cannot eat a doughnut and walk backwards on a city street.

North Canton
It is against the law to roller skate without notifying the police.

McDonald
Your goose may not paraded down Main Street.

Oxford
It's illegal for a woman to strip off her clothing while standing in front of a man's picture.

Paulding
A policeman may bite a dog to quiet him.

Toledo
Throwing a snake at anyone is illegal.

Strongsville
Catch 22 is banned.

Youngstown
Riding on the roof of a taxi cab is not allowed.
You may not run out of gas.

Speaking of dumb laws- on my campus- my sorority cant have a house b/c in Nassau county, ny there is a law that says that 6 girls or more living in a house together is considered a brothel (whore house)!

I honestly have a hard time buying this. Even if it is law, do you think it would be enforced at all? I know it's the story on many campuses, but has anyone seriously looked into this? I don't see why it couldn't be changed in this day and age.

BTW, this is my 500th post!

The same thing applies to Dahlonega, GA too!

Here's some laws for Georgia that I found (I guess they're true):
Jonesboro: It's illegal to say "Oh, boy!"
Acworth: All citizens must own a rake.
Atlanta:It's against the law to tie a giraffe to a telephone pole or street lamp.
Gainesville: Chicken must be eaten with the hands.
Quitman: It is illegal for a chicken to cross the road.
St. Mary's: No spitting on the sidewalk after dark.

On the Smoking Gun site, I read once where a woman sued to overtun an Alabama state law that made it illegal to sell vibrators in sex shops.

That law applies in the town of Wilson, North Carolina as well.
