Service to the Troops! (DC area)

The Interest Group of Alpha Phi Omega at the University of the District of Columbia is collecting items for care packages to send to United States troops serving overseas.

The students are looking for the following items: granola bars, energy bars, protein bars, powdered beverages such as gator aid, tooth brushes, tooth paste, shaving cream, men's and women's razors, hand sanitizer, soap, deodorant, facial tissues, feminine hygiene products, stress balls, stamps, decks of cards, black pens, and stationary. If you don't have items to give, your gift cards or other monetary donations can also be used to purchase items.

For additional information and/or to set up bulk pickups, please contact Monica D. Williams at zetasace1@aol.com; Michael Adedokun at oma2313@hotmail.com, or me, their sponsor at rashid.darden@gmail.com.

I must say these students are blazing new trails as they work diligently at chartering a new chapter of Alpha Phi Omega at UDC! Please support these students as they support our troops.

Has anyone done a magazine drive? I mean have individuals donate magazines and then ship them over to the troopers. Keeps them up-to-date on events. If so what is the average cost to ship something over?

Those flat rate boxes work wonders when sending stuff over to the troops.

There is no charge to order, but the price is pretty decent if you ship domestic (up to 70 pounds) and the boxes come in different sizes. Last I sent something, sending stuff to the troops is considered domestic. I last sent something at $7.70 but I'm sure it's gone up since.

Teriffic. I have brothers in the army right now, and they're in harms way.

Might I also suggest sending prepaid phone cards. When I was in Basic, we needed a card to phone home and say we'd landed alright.
