I absolutely hate them. And have you all noticed how the "no thank you" buttons keep getting harder and harder to find?

Are you guys kidding? I just love it when 421 boxes pop up when I just want to go to one website. I am really interested in that small camera that goes anywhere because you can spy on anyone, and that weight loss product that takes off 200 pounds in one week. I love pop us boxes just as much as I love bulk email about viagra and enlarging male body parts (I am a woman)and refinancing my mortgage (I dont own a house).

Just a little bit of sarcasm to lighten things us. Hope you enjoy!

OK guys,

I work for a dot-com. So lemme give ya the scoop. Its the only way dot-coms make any advertising $ these days. Fixed banners on sites don't do it. Pop ups do, or they wouldn't exist.

Now that said--it can get excessive. We have a policy of only one pop up per section of the website. That's not too bad.

Also the newer "pop unders" which come up under the page you are viewing are not too bad, at least they don't get in your way.

Without ad dollars--many sites would cease to exist/have to charge for membership.

I had to reply to this because that used to be my biggest gripe, pop-up ads. I know that dot.coms need to make their money but heres where we win. Get some kind of pop-up ad blocker program and install it on your computer. Bye bye X-10 camera ads (or whatever else)

I don't know anyone who actually LIKES those pop up ads.

The worst ones are when you close a pop up and then you get 10 million in return. By the time you get done closing all of them you get an error message on your PC (or Mac) saying that you've run out of memory.

That's my thing... I hate pop-ups, but I can deal with just one coming up. It's when 10 million come up that I get really annoyed.

The ones I really hate are those that don't have a button to close, you actually have to do several things on your keyboard to close them. How annoying!

I remember once my dad was at work and checking his email. Well one of his coworkers had emailed him something from home and he went to open it. It said something about checking out a certain University's Hockey webpage because there was a picture of Ashley Judd with the team. So my dad clicked the link and then it took him to a porn site. My dad of course got all flustered and hit the little x box and then more stupid POP-UP's showed up with more links to porno sites. He was so pissed off because after about 5 he finally got the whole thing to disappear...but that could have cost him his job had a boss walked by or something.

I know how vicious these pop-ups and pop-unders are - I read the NY Times online at work, and they have so many pop-unders it's ridiculous. I'm at the point where, if a random Netscape window appears on my taskbar, I just close it without even viewing it. Especially if I dial in from home (slow modem). Ugh!
