Unhappy Do you all remember? Two years ago around this time....

JFK Jr., his elegant wife Carolyn, and her sister disappeared due to a plane crash . Do y'all remember? I remember I was glued to the TV set for hours - hoping and praying that somehow, despite all the odds, that JFK Jr. and his family would show up...I even shed a few tears when it turned out that they were missing for good...

E! (the channel) is also doing a special this week on JFK and others who left way too soon...like Princess Di, Freddie Prinze (sr.), River Phoenix, and Chris Farley...

(From E Online):

Where were you when John F. Kennedy died?

Once upon a time, that question only applied to our nation's 35th president, JFK. Chances are, however, that most of us can more easily recall where we were two years ago this week when we heard about the death of JFK Jr., an event chronicled Sunday in the premiere of The Last Days of John F. Kennedy, Jr.: The E! True Hollywood Story (Sunday, 9 p.m.).

The JFK Jr. episode kicks off Only the Good Die Young week, a full flight of shows from the freshly Emmy-nominated True Hollywood Story series. The week includes installments on River Pheonix, Chris Farley, Princess Diana and Freddie Prinze.

On Sunday's John-John THS, the two-hour special includes exclusive footage, details on the investigation into JFK Jr.'s death and interviews with Kennedy friends and family. You'll hear plenty of dish on his academic and career struggles, on his ability to live his life independently under intense media scrutiny and the sometimes volatile relationship with wife Carolyn Bessette, who--with her sister Lauren--also died in the July 1999 plane crash that killed JFK Jr.

As with his father, JFK Jr.'s version of the Camelot story ended much too early.

I think that the media sensationalization of the Kennedy's is absoultely disgusting. All Jaqueline, John Jr. and his wife Carolyn wanted was to live a private life as they stated repeatedly. Unfortunately, they are not allowed to do this even in death. Circumstances as they are however, my prayers are with the Kennedy and Bessete family's as they are forced to relieve footage of a very painful and tragic time if they decide to turn on their television.

I remember exactly where I was when I found out. It was the summer before my freshman year in college. Me and a few of my friends all got together at Friday's to hang out. Friday's has TV's all over the restaurant. All the sudden, the whole restaurant got really quiet and everyone was looking up at the TV screen. It was the breaking news headline that JFK Jr.'s plane had crashed. It was really shocking and everyone was really quiet for the rest of dinner.

I agree. When I was little, I always wanted to grow up and become famous - but really when you are famous, is there any room at all to just breathe one day and do whatever you want??? I just feel so sad for those who are constantly bugged by the media to the point where every single move is recorded. Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy constantly remarked of how the media attetention was just too much sometimes.

You know, two Japanese players in the MLB, Ichiro and Sasaki, have just decided recently to BOYCOTT the Japanese Media b/c the paparazzi had caused SO much trouble - Ichiro almost crashed his car one night in front of his house b/c all those photographers were snapping away!!!! Those reporters even stalked him to his house! Gosh when do ppl finally get the picture...do things like Princess Di's incident have to happen to show how detrimental the paparazzi is? .

However, it is also the media who brought John-John's fame it seems - made him seem like such a classy man, not to mention handsome!!! It's just so sad that his life and others' ended so abruptly .

Personally it’s a tragedy when anyone dies I understand the mystique of the Kennedy family but lets face facts a lot of them get attention for being aristocratic. I cringe every time I hear someone refer to them as Americas Royals it goes against the whole concept of equality.

i will always remember this...that summer during july i was on a cross country camping trip from NY to Ca and back with my bf. I remember that we were so low on cash that we just read the headlines of the paper inside the vending box but when we found out what had happened we decided to ditch drinks with dinner and buy the paper as a souvenir...
it's an odd cycle..my parents know where they were when Pres. Kennedy died and I know where I was when Jr died...

Cool

I remember, I had just come home from work, and my mom was glued to the TV. We watched all afternoon, until I went out with my boyfriend. We got in a terrible fight over something stupid, but the whole while, I was thinking about what was happening with the Kennedys.

Yes, their tradgedies are more publicized because of their status. But, it was very sad, nonetheless.

I remember I was sleeping (with the TV on as usual). I thought I had heard something about his plane missing, but thought it was a dream. I work up and saw the footage on MSNBC of the oaast Guard boats searching the water. I just could NOT believe it. I laid in bed all day, leaving just to go to the bathroom and to get food downstairs. The next day I had to go to work and was all over the internet looking for search info. When the word came that they found the plane, I was relieved that they had found them, but so saddened that all three were still in their seats, strapped in. I still follow the story. I cannot wait to watch the footage tonight. So tragic...

It's really called "Only the Good Die Young" week? That is absolutely morbid!

I remember I was getting ready for work in the morning when they announced that the plane had been reported missing. I had to go to work and I made everyone there listen to the radio reports. I remember the day was ridiculously rainy, and it made me very mad that most of my coworkers (who were older than I am) didn't know who JFK was, let alone his son.

Did any of you catch the special on JFK Jr.? I had to ask my friend to tape it, b/c 1) my parents cancelled cable, and 2) my VCR needs repairing...so it'll be a while till I get to see it!
