What exactly do dues pay for?

So I am considering joining a chapter that gave me a bid, however, my parents are concerned about the fact that the dues are expensive. They wonder what exactly are the dues paying for, which I had never thought about. So what exactly are dues going towards

If there is a house, dues go to pay maintenance/utilities fees on the house, sometimes a meal plan (depending on the school/chapter), national membership dues, some social events, IFC dues if your school has those, donations to philanthropy or Foundation, any fees needed for school or community service events, rush t shirts if your chaper orders those, and for things like dinner when a leadership consultant visits you.

Also, fraternities are supported by membership dues. A portion of what you pay goes to the national organization to help keep it running.

The chapter treasurer should be able to tell you specifically what your dues include.

Also dues your first semester are a little more because of one time fees like pledging, initiation, and your pin.

The money goes into things you do as a chapter. Whether it's putting on a social, holding initiation, having traveling consultants, or getting recruitment shirts, the money all (basically) goes back to you. Obviously, some of it has to help the national organization run, but in the end, it's for your benefit.

I strongly urge you to talk to the chapter's treasurer on this one. Exactly what is included in dues varies from organization to organization and campus to campus. There shouldn't be any problem with you asking this question, and some organizations may even be open to helping you with a payment plan if that is an issue for you. Good luck!

Dues, the life blood of an GLO.

New Association dues go for paying the HQ to do paper work to get everything lined up and your new Associate (Pledge pin) and manual.

After initiation, it will also help pay for your shingle and if a basic active badge is included.

Then dues will be broken down to those that go to HQ to pay for office staff, magazine, HQ representatives who visit along with Risk Management Insurance which is huge along with conferences that are held.

Also the dues go for events of social natures.

They can go for house maintaintence except for those who do not live in the house for the usage and those are called parlor fees. They will also go towards insurance and utilities.

House payments go for the same things including upkeep.

If a house is not kept up, well, that should cover living in a hovel.

GLOs are a business and like a business, there is monies need to function.

If you cannot afford it, or want to be a true participant, do not join!

But if you do, it will be one of the greatest times of your life!
