SDSU expels two fraternities

SAN DIEGO – Greek life may be severely diminished at San Diego State University in the fall. Two fraternities, Lambda Chi Alpha and Delta Sigma Phi, were expelled Thursday for alcohol and hazing violations, respectively, at a time when two other fraternities are on interim suspension resulting from the university's largest drug sting in history.

Wtf is wrong with this school?
Their Greek system seems to be really f'ed up.
Years ago the TKE chapter there submitted paperwork to TKE's IHQ to have Ron Jeremy initiated as an honorary member.
Of course the request got rejected, but the guys there still had him go through ritual and now people believe he is a brother...
Needless to say we no longer have a chapter there.

State is it's own special place.
Worth noting is that both Delta Sig and Lambda Chi were recolonized not all that many years ago.

So sad to hear about my Brothers there.
But, if the rules are not followed then, all will pay for what a few did.
It would be interesting to find out how many were involved in each of these GLOs.

Haha, not to knock TKE but I remember when I went through rush being told about Ron Jeremy being a TKE. It wasn't exactly a selling point. They never once mentioned Ronald Reagan which actually would have impressed me.

From the article regarding Delta Sigma Phi:
Quote:
three pledges kidnapped a brother
The frat member contacted university police
|
I wonder if the other actives are upset with their brother for contacting the cops regarding the incident.
Now, before anyone jumps on me, I'm not saying that some if not most hazing isn't bad and that it shouldn't be reported.
I'm just wondering how the actives will feel knowing that the report of an active is what brought down the chapter. Isn't it usually the pledges or their parents that tell the authorities?
edited to add:
At the rate that fraternities are being kicked off campus, there may be no Greek system (at least for men) at SDSU in the near future

Or maybe the fraternities who are left will figure out that hazing isn't worth it. Hey, a girl can dream.

While I can finally agree with you on a part of your post, oh never mind, you are so a pro of being correct.
So, if one does all are wrong?
No, I do not beleive in that part of it, but You are correct, screw up and well See Ya!
Stupid is as Stupid does.
So, it is a loss for all of us whether you beleive it or not.

I wonder how the University feels now...two major hits on their Greek system within a month. I'm surprised they haven't considered removing the Greek system totally.

From the article -- another example of something that probably shouldn't have been said to the press:
the president of the Delta SIgma Phi chapter "said most fraternities at SDSU and elsewhere haze, even if they won't talk about it."

Ruiz said the victim reported the incident three days later, after he felt betrayed that his fraternity sided against him by allowing the pledges involved to become members.
|
So, the active involved did not immediately report the incident. He waited 3 days, and only reported it to get back at the other actives for making a decision to initiate the pledges who had "kidnapped" him.
This just seems really odd. I have heard of guys who depledged being shamed out of a school for not sticking it out - much less telling Greek Life about things that happened during pledgeship. That an active would rat out his own house to the police seems inconceivable. Can he possibly have known the consequences of going to the police?
I wonder if he is planning on staying at that school. Chances are he is on some people's s**t lists.
