It's my dream, but the sorority situation at my alma mater is tough. MANY drop out if they don't get the group of their choice...they won't even consider "certain" sororities. Kind of like Ole Miss. Plus, any new house would have to be truly fabulou$$$$$ to counter the location, which would not be lined up with the other houses wherever it might be. See my response on that thread. Also, I might note that Panhellenic just raised house total to 180.

It would be GREAT to get the chance to go into Bama, however, I ditto what AnchorAlumnae posted about girls "know" the house they want. My daughter pledged at Ole Miss and I was there to see the girls drop out of recruitment when they were released from their "dream house". I talked to her roommate who almost dropped for that very reason. She had been raised in a small town where she only heard about two of the nine houses. Pledging anywhere else would be considered a "failure". I talked to her for over an hour before she decided to go to the preference parties where she received invitations. She did pledge and LOVES her house. However, I do know a couple of the girls actually left school because they were released from certain houses.

We just need to make sure we have a very strong team that goes in with their eyes wide open and with lots of alum support. Best of luck to all of you that are part of the team!

Per Titchou over in the general Bama expansion thread, "Delta Gamma, Alpha Xi Delta and Alpha Phi are presenting in February."

Good luck to our expansion/presentation team!!!

As a TX DG who was a temporary transplant to B'ham several years ago, I have to agree with several of the ladies above - if there is to be expansion, a strong team and lots of planning need to go into this with tons of support from alum and collegiate chapters in the region. As much as I would love to see expansion, there are definitely opinions about DG's former "reputation" amongst friends of mine who were part of the system at Bama. Several ladies had heard very unflattering things about Delta Gamma (not willing to repeat what they heard- and it is probably untrue) during their previous tenure on campus. There are girls who are groomed to be "old row" from birth and if a chapter with a previously questionable rep recolonizes, many of them will be "educated" to steer clear. Not everyone approaches rush with an open mind or no connections! In my opinion, Bama is a tough campus.

You may be assured that the Fraternity has a process in place for all colonizations that includes alum surveys, demographic research, etc. Alabama is crying out for expansion. The numbers are overwhelming the system. If you look at the groups who are not on campus, there is no one else with the national reputation of Delta Gamma who is available to go back. Out of the 11 not there, only Delta Gamma, Alpha Xi Delta and Alpha Phi have expressed interest. The university wants to add 2 groups - one in 08 and one in 10. Which two of these three - or the remaining 8 - have the ability to colonize on this campus? Last fall, 54% of the PNMs pledged were from out of state. Yes, it will be hard work to put a chapter there. But there are a lot of us willing to put in the time and effort. If we get the opportunity, I invite you all to help us. And if you can't do that, at least remember your Oath of Friendship (and send a check to help build the house!).

Ladies, please pardon the board crash ...

DGMom3, I know you didn't mean any harm, but AnchorAlumna debunked the rumors about her chapter's closing in another thread—it was low numbers, nothing else. Surely you want DG to succeed if they end up being invited to recolonize, so why rehash trash talk from 30-something years ago?

The place to start debunking this supposed 30 plus year reputation is with ourselves. If we stop spreading it, that will be half the battle!
