I totally understand your pain!!!!!

I LOVE swimming (I try to swim 3 times a week), though I'm not a competitive swimmer or anything. But I totallyu know what you mean - chlorine wreaks sooo much havoc on our precious hair!

anyway, there is this deep conditioner that I use from Paul Mitchell and also Nexxus (I alternate, b/c I firmly believe that products stop working after awhile), that is great for chlorine-wrecked hair. Unfortunately I don't have the products on me (I left them by accident at the Y), so I can't tell ya the name yet, but I will soon .

What really helps is immediatley after getting out of the pool, to rinse out your hair relaly well and use the deep conditionaer. It's also geat to use a leave-in (Infusium23 is great for leave-in conditioning). But you're a lifeguard, so I bet you're in and out of the water all the time - so I don't know if you can always rinse immediately ?

Also, the best thing is to braid your hair (rather than just a ponytail or leaving it down) or something, so the water and sun won't wreak havoc that much!

Also you might try using a UV-infused conditioner! That really helps so if you color your hair, it won't turn green or orange (yuck)!

Sorry if this sounds so confusing! HTH! If any more questions, ask away !

Try VO5 Hot oil, or deep conditioning! And during the day keep leave in conditioner in your hair! (try Herbal Essances spray on... I LOVE IT!)I hope this helps!!

Oh, this is the story of my life! If you do lap swimming, consider a cap. (Yeah, I know they look stupid.) Take it from someone who swam competitively for 11 years that it makes a world of difference. I recommend one made of silicone rather than latex. They cost about 5x more, but are infinitely more comfortable and last forever. Before you put it on, wet your hair with fresh water in the shower and work conditioner through it. This prevents your hair from absorbing much chlorine at all.

Obviously, this won't work for a lifeguard (something I did as well!). Assuming your hair is somewhere near or past your shoulders, this will work. After you wash your hair, squeeze out all the water you can and put on conditioner, but don't rinse it out. Comb it back like a ponytail and twist into a bun-ish shape. Don't put an elastic around it, though, because after a few days your hair will start to break. Instead, get a bunch of little clips and put them around the outer edge of the coil until it stays up. While you sit in the sun, it heats up and soaks into your hair-a deep treatment every day! My hair was always in better shape AFTER the summer because of this little trick.

Also, the shampoo I swear by is Malibu "C" Swim&Sport. Kinda hard to find sometimes (I get mine at a sporting goods store that deals with swim teams, but some salons carry it as well), but worth the search. If you can't find that, Ultra Swim from the drugstore is good too (but smells funny...). Hope this helps.

Ketchup, swear to G** it works
Ketchup contains something that naturally removes the chlorine from hair, get it wet pour HEINZ 57 into hair and let it sit for 30 mintues with a cap over your head....rinse(well) and condition
I saw it in Cosmo a couple of years ago when I lifeguarded.
