New Orleans Bound
Hey all, I and my fraternity brothers and I are heading off to our big TKE conclave in a month. It's in New Orleans this year, and we're all really excited, as most of us havent been there before. If anyone from there, or has visited there knows of good places to eat/drink/sightsee, then please let me know. We're going to be in the downtown section of the city, just for reference.

Hey Gmuteke!!! I'm glad to see that the TKEs will be invading NOLA this summer. You wanted to know some of the cool places to go so I'm here to help out. I'm not a native New Orleanian but I am from South Louisiana so I've spent my fair share of time in NOLA partying. There are tons of cool places to go in NOLA. I'm sure that y'all will want to hit Bourbon Street. EVERYONE does. LOL. Anyways...definitely hit 735 and Pat OBriens. Those are two of the biggest hot spots on Bourbon.
Most of the clubs and bars are centered around Bourbon Street. Check out Margaritaville (Decatur Street), The Red Room (St. Charles Street--right down the street from the Real World House), Tipitina's French Quarter, and the House of Blues (Decatur Street). Another cool club is Kenny's Key West in Metairie, LA (right outside of NOLA).
As far as food goes...NOLA is known for its food. Definitely come down and try out the cajun and creole food if you haven't before. Some of the places can get a little pricey but most are pretty reasonable. Try Pierre Maspero's (awesome poboys and seafood), K-Paul's Louisiana Kitchen, Copeland's, and Ralph and Kacoo's.
If you want to do some shopping check out the Riverwalk or Jackson Brewery for some cool shops. They also have some REALLY good food in those two places.
And for sightseeing...everything in NOLA is really cool. A lot of the houses and buildings are really old and very historic. You might also want to try a swamp tour. The Audubon Zoo, the Aquarium of the Americas, and the IMAX theater are all big tourist stops too.
OK...I hope this has helped you out some. I would suggest checking for info on the web. You might find some more stuff there. If you need anything else...some more tips or anything like that feel free to email me. My email is Sweetpea5281@aol.com
Hope y'all have a blast!!

I gotta throw out a plug again for Jack Dempsy's. Totally in the Ghetto - but worth it. Cheap Seafood, and the best I have EVER had.

Have fun at your convention (times like these makes me wish we weren't a local! ) But make sure that you tell us all about it as a few of my sisters (and I ) might be heading down there for spring break!

Sorry girl. Didnt mean no harm. Just meant that when we went there the neighborhood on the way to JD's seemed kinda rough. (You should see where I live, now thats the Ghetto). Gotta admit JD's is off the typical tourist beaten path. But I shouldnt have called it the Ghetto. My bad. Forgiven?
