Hello Sorors and SFs,
Perhaps you can help me understand something.
I posted a wedding announcement about Harold Ford, Jr. on my blog (
http://theblacksocialite.blogspot.com) and was simply shocked by the number of negative comments posted.
I had to emphasize to readers that this is my blog and I can post photos of whomever I please. Many of them were 'stretched out' over his decision to marry a white woman and my decision to post their photo.
Meanwhile, I don't get a slew of comments about Black female/White male couples or Black couples featured on the blog (positive or negative).
I don't get it.
Why are so many Sisters upset about interracial relationships between Black men and White women in the 21 Century? Especially since the majority of us are supporting Sen. Obama, a bi-racial candidate for President whose message is about 'hope, change, and racial unity.'
I get all of the damning stats about how many of us are single, have never been married, etc. I also understand the historical legacy of how some of us can feel negatively impacted by the sight of interracial relationships.
But when/how do we get pass this?
I have never been bothered by Black men dating/marrying White women and neither have any of my Black female friends. My own relationship keeps me pretty occupied

.
One Soror said to me that sisters get upset about other people's relationship choices when they are not in happy, healthy relationships themselves.
Is this an accurate statement? Or is there something deeper?
Thanks all!
