What to do now?
Alright, I have taken the advice of many on this site and done my research, gotten to know different members of fraternities on the yard at my school, and made my decision of which one I would like to join. What do I do next? The Frat I am interested in joining is one of the divine nine bglo.

Don't talk about it on this board or any other internet site. The rest of your pursuit should be done in person with the org you are interested in.
If you are fortunate enough to get initiated, then come back as an initiated member.

You might want to remove "frat" from your vocabulary and replace it with "fraternity" to avoid a faux pas.

^^
Make sure your focus remains on school - that's why you're in college in the first place. Support that organization's functions (service, on campus events, etc) to show you have a genuine interest.
Good luck!

Heya Sis, that is different in NPHC fraternities. Frat is not a faux pas in this context.

For NPHC orgs, which he implied that he is interested in, it is not considered a faux pas to refer to a fraternity as a 'frat'. As a matter of fact, they (the guys in NPHC frats) call each other frat. 'Frat' is not seen as an offensive term for NPHC orgs.

I realize this thread has no where to go, really...but if someone pulls out the "country" reference, I'm going to go apeshit crazy on them.

there's several things you can do. are you good friends with any members of that chapter? if so, you can tell them that you're interested in pursuing membership into the org. also you can show interest by attending a number of events they have, and i dont mean just parties. social events are cool, but got to do the social action ones also. but dont be on some stalker type level tho. and lastly, when they have an informational/interest meeting...go to that. I mean, there's no distinct way to pursue membership, you just got to do what works best for you.

I know that members of BGLOs refer to individuals as "frat", but do they refer to their org as a frat?

I've heard several NPHC fraternity men (both IRL and here on GC) refer to their organization as 'frat'.
As stated earlier, 'frat' is not an offensive term for NPHC members.

Yep.
She is attempting to discuss something that isn't up for discussion. There is no universal "frat" standard.

I got it, and I wasn't trying to argue.
