Talking WARM FUZZIES

Hi,
I don't know if anyone else has noticed but there has been some negative stuff going on on this board and it's bothersome only because I come here to get away from the crunch and grind of life to talk to people with similar interests.

So, in the spirit in which the title is written, I'd love to hear some warm fuzzies. Say something nice about someone you've met, on this site or otherwise. Tell us something great that happened to you or that you did for someone else. What can be better than a feel-good post? .

Leslie

Thumbs up

This is an amazing 911 story that I saw on NBC Dateline maybe 2 weeks ago.

There was a couple with a 3 year old daughter. Dad worked, so Mom stayed home with the little girl. Mom had a condition where she would sometimes have a life threatening seizure (I think it was epilepsy, but I may be wrong).

Anyhow, Mom talked to the pre-school teacher of the daughter to see if there was a way in which the kids could be taught to dial "911" and if they would know when it was appropriate, etc.

So the pre-school teacher wrote a song to the tune of "If You're Happy and You Know It, Clap Your Hands". It went like this:

When someone needs help, I must dial 911!
When someone needs help, I must dial 911!
I dial 9, and then a 1, and then a 1 and help will come,
When someone needs help, I must dial 911!

Then the teacher took a phone (unplugged of course) and to teach the children how to actually dial 911. She painted a dot of green nail polish on the "9" (Green for GO)
and then 2 dots of red polish on the "1" (Red for Stop, Stop).

Well, of this effort paid off, because one day, Mom really did have a seizure. The little girl called 911 and said, "When are you going to come and get my Mommy?" and then after some back and forth with the 911 dispatcher, the little girl blurted out, "She has a seizure!"

It was so amazing to watch this story unfold. The ambulance was there within minutes and Mom ended up being ok (and she would *not* have been ok, if there'd been a delay in getting help).

Now, that 911 lesson is a part of that community's school curriculum.

So amazing!

Wow I have a lot of those to pass out to people I chat with on here

ZetaAce - you always make me proud to be greek! You answer posts in a respectful manner and always willing to "lend a hand" and offer sound advice. And besides that - you crack me up when you get on a roll

Carnation - my best cyberspace buddy -- couldn't LIVE without your daily emails to keep me going Your advice too is always right on target Love ya!

Bucutie - even though my email system and yours seems to have some mega prob's sometimes -- I love to hear from you! You are so energetic and excited about going greek! I know you will be a great sister in whichever sorority you join!

Kevin - you always keep me rolling

Lifesaver - ditto -- still laughing at the roommate stories

Billy Optimist & James -- love the women posts -- its sad to say that you guys are right on target with some of those!

Nupe4Life - you always keep me rolling too I swear I thought I'd get fired after reading those ghetto wedding stories here at work

Hootie, Allie, and the other XO's that I chat with regularly -- SO glad to see you guys bounce back from hell (pronounced with an empahasis on the "V"...heeheehee) - you guys are all so awesome!

There are so many more but I'll stop for now! There's always something on here to get me smiling -- if not, maybe I wouldn't be on here all day every day Maybe then I could get some work done! Nahhhh!

GPHI2k,

What a wonderful idea.

AXO Alum, glad I could be of service. *L* I find it strange that I could keep you rolling. Thats great though. I always enjoy reading your posts as well.

Ok, heres my contribution. I dont really like advertising this but for the sake of this topic I will. I had a cornea transplant on July 29, 1999. I found out that I had come down with a corneal condition called keratoconus(the front side of my eye which becomes like a flat tire and distortes vision). They have no explanation for what causes it. Anyways, if I would have gone without the transplant, I would have became nearly blind. In my other eye I still have the condition and am saving the money or getting coverage where I can do the other transplant. Well, the surgery was a success and I have a 19 year old cornea in my eye. They cut out my old(front side of my eye) one and I was awake the whole time. It took me about 8 months to recover with 20 stiches in my eye but now theres no stiches and I'm doing great. I see 20/30 but before I saw 20/400. Major difference and it was a miracle.

Kevin

Yeah it did. I mean things arent perfect but I am definitely better off than I was before. Your welcome. I often reluctant to share it because many dont really understand it, but I'm glad you liked my story. Its definitely changed my outlook on my life and I'm always grateful to the boy who gave me his cornea. I have no idea who it is though or the family. Its really up to them and I dont see them ever trying to contact me. Anyways, you're welcome

Cool

This is a wonderful topic. Gosh, there are so many wonderful things that keep me coming back to GC. Please forgive me if I get a little long winded

Lesile and Amycat- You guys rock cause you love "my husband" (Dave Matthews) as much as I do. I love meeting other Dave fans

The LSU crew- juniorgrrl, and the lovely ladies of Sigma Alpha sorority. Even though we all have some not so nice opinions about LSU and it greek system, thanks for representing our school with class and grace

Phoenixgrad, thanks for coming back to the board. I've missed you. Thanks also for the recent emails. They've helped alot, believe me

Thanks to the person who posed the thread about the lady in one organization who saw a badge of another oraganization at an auction, brought it and returned to that organization. That made me feel all tingly inside cause to me that's what greekhood is all about

Thanks to all the moderators for keeping everybody in line

Last but not least, thanks to all the members of Divine Nine. There are always intersting debates going on in those formuns. A special thank you goes out to the lovely ladies of Alpha Kappa Alpha who taught me how to SEARCH , to the Gentlemen of Kappa Alpha Psi for keeping everybody in stiches with their insightful observations, and to IotaNet and RainMan who always pass on valuable information to the GC community

Stick a fork in me cause I'm done

This is a great thread

I want to thank everyone here who has been so supportive of me during my unfortunate encounters with the dark side of the greek system. Ya'll have helped me keep faith that there are down-to-earth, nice people in sororities. Sometimes, especially at my school here, it feels like you are being watched all the time, for your hair, makeup, everything to be perfect. But ya'll have shown me that greeks are nice people who, overall, are more interested in character rather than looks- it reminded me of why I wanted to be one in the first place!

To all the XO girls: I think ya'll are awesome - your sisterhood totally shines here.

prospectiverushee and the sigma alpha girlies: GEAUX TIGERS! Ya'll are awesome representatives of a school that is too-often picked on. Ya'll are leading the way for a diversified Greek system here!

to everyone else: thank you for being so funny and fun! I'm a horrible GC addict - I come here 5 or 6 or 20 times a day looking for new talk! I love y'all

One thing I love about this site is the opportunity to read posts by other Canadian Greeks. I swear sometimes we are in our own world up in the Great White North . This is especially for GPhi2k and Lil G. We've got some awesome topics going about Greek life and life in general in Canada. And to all the regulars on this site .

Gosh whiz, thanks Hootie! It feels so good to have a place to come to and talk about stuff that is Greek to a lot of people (har har). I'd like to thank all the NPHC members on here for being wonderful teachers - all I know about the NPHC, I learned on Greek Chat! Thanks of course, to John for being the grand poo-bah and resurrecting this board from its somewhat tawdry greeksource past. Also thanks James, for keeping me sane and playing psychologist when I feel like getting that Uzi out of the closet.

Here's another warm fuzzy - a chapter sister who I haven't talked to for 5+ years calling me up to help me out with alum stuff. And ending up talking for an hour and a half like I just saw her yesterday. That's what sisterhood and brotherhood is really all about.
