Other than being sick, what makes you want to call in sick to work?
When you're not sick, what makes you want to call in sick? Is it the people at your job? The atmosphere? The work load? Is it your boss? Is it just one person that gets on your last nerve when you see him/her coming your way? What is it that you think about and dread that will make you say "I might have to call in sick today."

For me, it isn't work at all..it's just being tired and needing some time for "me", to rejuvenate. Being a single mom, working full time, hauling kids to activities every night of the week.. I'm tired sometimes. Every now and then, I just need a day to read, watch movies, take a long, hot, bubbly bath and take care of my psyche

The sister of the owners. She comes in 2 days a week, disrupts our lives and has the title of Sr. VP.
She only works because she wanted to secure a high-level spot in the company for her son.

I have requested days off ahead of time because of a convention or another activity going on.
Once I called in sick because I was too depressed due to handling other issues in my life. I was a teaching assistant- not exactly a paid job.
Otherwise, when I call in sick, I truly am sick. I have called in sick twice this year at work. Once I had the flu, the other time I had a severe cold.
Let's just say that things are MUCH better now than what they were 10 years ago.

Mostly because I need a mental day. I try hard not to abuse the leave I have accrued so far (I use most of it when my daughter gets sick or has a day off and school is closed). But usually, I am tired and need a day to reset.

I've been at my current job for 2 1/2 years, and I've called in twice: once when I was actually sick, and the other time was when my dad broke his leg in a motorcycle accident and I stayed with him at the hospital until 3AM.

That sounds gross... not sure I even want to know what that is...
I called in earlier this week as a cold was starting to come on, but mostly I wanted to spend time with J before he left to travel with his family for the holidays and I was just tired and wanted to lay on the couch all day. Mental days are definitely occasionally needed. I never take off from my PT job for that though since I only get paid if I work (hourly job) so if I'm sick I will, but that's it.

Anal Glaucoma - it's when you call and say "I just can't see my @ss coming in today!"

My husband and I both "fell ill" at work (different jobs) at the same day and time so we could meet up and go see the first "Lord of the Rings" movie the day it came out and just did the same thing for the Simpsons movie this summer...

My first year teaching I only had 1 sick day for every month I worked. And I took every single one of them.
Now, into year 5, unless I'm sick I take off at least once or twice a year just for a me day. Or if it's been a reallly bad day, I take the next day off.
