I'm back as mod
Hey guys,
Given the Dragon thread I did request to come back as mod and I am here in that capacity for this forum only at this point.
There was some good stuff in the Dragon thread, but it was just easiest to delete it all rather than leave good posts that made reference to stuff that was ficticous and pointless. So apologies to the original poster who posed a very legitimate question. And apologies to those who made some good comments in that thread.
Like someone else posting in that thread, I find it somewhat funny that Betas from Chico State would post here and say they lost their charter due to revealing ritual. That is just not true. The ice water immersion practice was incredibly dangerous (even the military has very strict rules about the use of cold water techniques in training due to the risk of hypothermia and other health emergencies), and the thought of a bunch of (possibly drunk at the time) kids doing it is pretty scary. That is actually one of the most dangerous hazing activities there is- and the peril of it is quite obvious to anyone with any sense.
There have been a few chapter closures this year, but none of them seem out of line to me. And actives from 2 of those chapters admitted to me in private conversations that they were not surprised to get shut down even though they thought it unfortunate.
Just consider other chapters where very serious incidents have happened- and yet the chapters are still open. This is further evidence that these are case-by-case situations which involve much history that anyone outside the chapter cannot possibly know in full.
I will say this. The best defense a chapter has against closure is a strong alumni base and advisory team. Alumni and advisors do not support chapters going in a bad direction, and our presence and support of a chapter make a huge difference- as well they should- when an individual incident is being evaluated for action.
So instead of getting worried about Oxford, my advice to any chapter is to look at your operations and your alumni/advisor support. If your alumni and advisors are active and involved with the chapter- then it stands to reason you are moving in a good direction. Alumni and advisors are adults with lives, families and careers. They will not bother with their own chapter if they do not see evidence that it is turning out young men who are better for their Beta experience.
Anyhow, I keep busy these days- we even work weekends right now- so I won't be here as much as I would like. But report a post or drop a PM if there is a problem on this forum and I will take care of it.
And as I said back when I took this job- I will never delete or edit anything without making it known what I have done. So rest assured free speech still reigns here- provided it is truthful.
