Girls who wear thong slippers please help me!!
Hey girls!
See, I bought a really cool-looking pair of thong slides a couple of weeks ago. You know, those pretty wooden thong slides? WELL, anyway, previously, I had never had any problem with wearing thong slippers. Until a week ago.
I went to the mall during break, and realized while shopping (I'm a total shopaholic!) that I was running late. So I left with 5 minutes left until the next class. (My school is close to the mall.) So I ran hella fast to try to get there on time...b/c unfortunately my school is HUGE and unfortunately my class that day was at the farthest end.
So, as I run back, halfway back to school, I realize that my feet are starting to hurt, BAD. Not like the pains that I've suffered before from wearing shoes that hurt... So anyway, I try to walk as fast as I can, but gingerly so.
So, when I get to class...I remove my thong slippers and see there is a huge cut on each foot where the thong slipper cut it. I quickly cover it with band-aids, get home, put Neosporin, and all that good stuff.
It's been a week later...and the gash is still HUGE, and it's still not healing all that well. I don't know what's the problem...I've never had such a huge gash on my feet before...and it looks like these cuts are gonna leave major scars. Neosporin doesn't seem to be helping!
My feet have been hurting and itchy this whole past week. Any advice please??!! I can't swim until it heals...and I miss swimming! Thanks for reading/helping!!

P.S. Has anybody ran with their thong slippers on? I didn't think that running/jogging with these would cause big cuts, only blisters.

Hey there-- I've had that problem too. But it only happened when the shoes were really new--as I wore them, and endured the pain to do so--they broke in and got softer. And yeah, I had to wear them with at least 2 bandaids each foot for padding. But it did get better and now I can wear them bandaid-less. But I do have scars. Its only been a few months so maybe they'll go away.
Have another really cute pair of Steve Madden slides with the thong thing that NEVER got comfortable, no matter how much I wore them--and I think its cause thethong part is too thin to really support the weight of the shoe--has a chunky heavy bottom--and so it cuts into foot to compensate.

Hey Amy! Thanks for your reply!
See, my thong slippers LOOK nice...and I had wore them once before I had that "cut" experience, and it was fine! (But, see, I didn't run in them before! )
Also--what you said about the weight being a lot more on the bottom and the thong part being too thin...ahh, that might be it . Well, on the other hand, maybe not? Well, it LOOKS the size of a regular thong, but it's heavier when you pick it up (b/c it's wooden).
And, also, the thong part is made up of softer material than regular thongs (can't think of the name of the material..but feels really nice to the touch)...and I thought it would PREVENT problems!
Oh, Amy, are there any invisible band-aids nowadays? I have really light-colored feet, and then that day I had dark-colored band-aids on (friend gave them to me), and it looked ridiculous on me!
Ahh...we endure such torture to look good sometimes...LOL...

There are those invisible bandaids--personally I was using the heavy duty super thick fabric kind--and two on each foot at that!

newbie-
Unfortunately, the circulation in your feet is not as good as other parts of your body because they are far from your heart. Therefore, your feet heal at a much SLOWER pace than other parts. Keep applying the neosporin and see a doctor if things don't get much better. Your feet have a lot of bacteria on them and can get majorly infected if not cleaned properly.
Good luck! I'm feelin ya!

Hey Cash78mere! Thanks for your reply!!
That's why my feet are healing at such a slow, slow pace! You know, I've had this cut for a week, BUT I don't know how long I've been applying the Neosporin! The directions say not to aplpy Neosporin more than 7 days. I know that I haven't applied everyday (so probably I've applied 6 days already), so do you think I should stop after tomorrow?
Then what do I do? Ahh, this is kinda creeping me out...I never have had cuts anywhere this big!
Thanks so much Cash78mere! Oh, also, was it you who posted about the REvlon Run/Walk some time ago? (Don't know why your name is making me remember about the Revlon Run/Walk thingey!) I remember posting on there...did you ever partcipate after all??

As painful as this may sound, I recommend using rubbing alcohol to really eliminate all the bacteria in the cuts. Just pour it on, endure the pain for a few seconds. Owwie. Then let it air-dry and pour hydrogen peroxide on them. Depending on where the cuts are, you should find a way to wrap a gauze pad around them, as gauze is absorbant and will remove any weeping/moisture that attracts bacteria. I went through this every time I slid in softball. Silly team. Shorts were part of our uniform! It's supposed to be PANTS!!

I got a pair of shoes that are similar and the first day I rubbed a hole inbetween my big toe and second toe! Ouch!
I just used hydrogen peroxide on my foot for a few days, didn't wear the shoes, and kept a band-aid on. It healed into a callous that makes the shoes comfy now
Hope you get better, Newbie!

Why on earth would women buy shoes that are uncomfortable or injure them?? Surely there are nice looking shoes without those liabilities?

Yeah i cut myself too wearing these cool looking thongs. but the thong part was kinda stiff and i wore them on campus the whole day so i guess it kept scraping against the skin until finally i noticed blood seeping on top of my feet (gross but it's true). i should have taken them off but they didn't start hurting until i waslike, on my way to class. i just put a band aid while it healed and wore socks n gym shoes, because i was afraid that if i wore any type of sandals, the band part would keep scraping on the cut. right now it has a scar but it doesnt hurt anymore =)
yeah i think new thongs do need a breaking in period so the thong part isnt stiff to the point that it will hurt the feet....

Thanks so much for your replies, guys!!
KayDeeCareBear, thanks so much for the tips!! So is Rubbing Alcohol as good as Hydrogen Peroxide? my hydrogen peroxide as expired! I DO have the gauze pads though Thanks!!
Juniorgrrl, there was a hole in between your toes from the thongs??? Poor you!!! OUCH!
James, LOL..I'd say that 90% of our shoes hurt...or at least for a while, anyway. In my experience, all the nice-looking shoes hurt like hell! That's why sometimes girls take off their shoes while dancing...we want to look nice, but then there's only a certain amount of pain that we can endure for the whole night! The next day after wearing 3-inch heels, I always have some kind of blisters. But I've never had these gashes before . Grrr. The only shoes that we wear that are almost guaranteed NOT to hurt are tennis shoes! Or maybe slides...but thongs HURT! Oh BTW James, I replied back to your email!
Gammazetagrl, yeah, mine started bleeding, too . It was a nasty sight!! That day, I made my bf take me home before we went out again...I put on socks and tennis shoes as soon as I got home...and when I started walking with them, I breathed a sigh of relief, like "Ahhh!" LOL...it's so painful to walk sometimes with our shoes . I was walking as slow as a snail after the cuts !
Now my two gashes have turned into red welts. I'm afraid they're gonna leave really big red scars!!

I've never had a cut turn into this! yuck! what do i do?
