I think you're referring to a bubble guard. You can order them from Herff Jones.

Does any one have a picture of the bubble guards? I'm having a hard time imagining what they look like.

I don't have a picture, but they're like bubbly triangles with a hole going through them. If you have a pin that you have to slide through a shirt then twist the end closed, a bubble guard would be useful. If you just stick it through the shirt and attach the post on the other side (like an earring stud), you wouldn't need a bubble guard.

come to think of it...i dont think a bubble guard is what i needed...
for my badge, you stick the sharp pin in and then out of the shirt. then you push that pin down. but it doesnt stay down sometime thats why i almost lost mine. I looked at my big bro's badge and he had a really little piece that goes on the pin part that keep it down. i dont know what thats called.
but when i get the bubble guards in the mail..i'll take pics of them and post them up on here..and i'll take pics of my badge later on tonight to show you guys want i'm talking about.

Does your Big Bro know what that little piece is or how to fix it? Since he's a member of your org, he may know more about your badges than we might?

If it's what I'm thinking, it's this ^. This picture is a little large, but it's a standard pinback with barrel hinge pin and c-clasp. Sometimes the clasps get loose and won't stay closed, and the pin comes open. Would have to be fixed by the jeweler since it will need to be removed, replaced and then resoldered. Some pins have separage hinge and clasp with no pinstem in between.

That little rounded triangle thing on the arm of the pin is a "bubble guard". You push the pin's post through your shirt, slide the bubble guard on ("behind the shirt") and then continue pushing the pin out the other side of your shirt. Fasten the clasp as normal.
I'm with icelandelf, it sounds like you may actually be having a problem with the clasp itself. If that's the case, then you would need to take it to a jeweler for repair or replacement.
Of course, the whole point of a bubble guard is to keep the badge from falling off if the clasp fails. The guard "grips" the pin post and acts a little bit like an earring backing. If the pin clasp fails, the pin post can't slide off the shirt because the bubble guard is on the other side and, well, the guard is too big to pass through the shirt.
ETA: This is what the back of your pin looks like. You said you simply push the pin down to close it. I wonder if this style has an "auto-clasp" system where the inner piece folds in over the post when the wearer pushes down on it. Any GC Kappa Sigs want to clarify?
